in the last 3 trips, that road was filled with campers. a good call for f.s. to prohibits camping on the roadside.

PW. relax, we're heading into a new era of digital culture.....:lol3

down the road, no one doesn't have to go anywhere....it will all be virtual camping.

I usually go to the ranger district and look at the list after I find the forest road number on the map. A call can also get you more accurate info.

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/lpnf/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5307967

The link is to an area that actually has open roads to ride. Closer to LA, the less you will find. Cooler temps up Gold Hill or Frazier Mountain too.

You will also find more open roads north of the 14 fwy from Rowher Flats to Lancaster.

I have a friend who lives there. He says the lake is finally full once again. The tourists know it and they are back in droves.

Regarding the river, it is flowing fast.

kinda bummed my scheduling made me miss the KM ride this weekend so I jumped at the last minute opportunity when my friends invited me out to hit Gold Mountain and John Bull Gatekeeper for 2 reasons.

    1. I really need to suck it up and stop being scared of these trails if I ever want to do the Big Bear Run.
    2. I've been reading and studying a lot about hard enduro and endurocross suspension since I (was) having a hard time dealing with loose, rocky terrain and I wanted to put these ideas to practice.

Aside from all my chums that I met on this forum. Literally all my friends do 4x4s. But. Because I can run through the trail so much faster than them. That automatically gives me the task of spotter.

Their rigs are okay I guess...

I am stoked to be able to finally hit Gold Mountain. It wasn't as hard as I imagined... But I was definitely on my game today.

We didnt have plans to run all the way through John Bull. Rigs definitely travel at an agonizingly slow pace compared to bikes. But I'm super stoked I was able to try the gatekeeper atleast.

    How's this option:

Not camping but the option is available. Coyote Cal's has a big space to set up a tent.

Went and hit up Rowher for the first time, then went out to Newcombe Ranch — which was closed as the owner had unfortunately passed away... very sad for all.

Went out to Rowher with a mate who had never been on dirt before, and only on road for 2 months — KLR, worn 90/10 tires, work boots, rubber pegs and a rusted clutch cable... I give him 10 points for effort! Ya aussies over here will try anything once;) hahah
