agreed, awesome weekend of riding, and huge thanks to Dave the stick & Matt for introducing me to the single track wonderland!

I was a KM noob...reminded me of the woods rides in MA

there is a single track entrance right out of camp

rained 15 mins or so at the start of the day; which made for EPIC soft, perfect dirt!

We started on 34E27 (beach ridge trail)

and within 2 mins, I knew this was going to be an awesome place...it was the best single track I've been on in SoCal so far, and that was only the beginning!

thanks to @emmi for leading and making sure we made it through okay

a moderate ascend, meant a mellow descent with plenty of hairpins and intermediate rock sections

    this goes on for miles!

    boop! you're in a meadow/field

Next day was Monache with that log crossing above...fun weekend!

    braap!

Just drove by all the passes on the 395 so-bound, all three passes incl/north of Yosemite were open to traffic , no marking at junctions of 395 for any, (yesterday pm)

It is basically a toll road, around $25, the last time I paid to drive through a National park. Just have cash ready at the entrance. If you are old enough get a lifetime senior pass, do it. It's good for all US National parks. I don't remember the one time fee $60 to $80.

I drove through the park last Saturday and it was a mess. After sitting in line for almost an hour just to get to the entrance gate, I was told you needed to have a reservation. I explained I was driving through to get to the 395 and was issued a day-use vehicle permit that was good for 2 hours. The permit barred me from stopping anywhere in the park and also had a hefty fine for going into the valley.

I was given the temp permit only after I explained that I checked the NPS website and these restrictions were not listed. Ranger told me they got slammed with visitors and had to implement restrictions on day use and the web site may not have been updated to reflect current conditions. I also did not have to pay the access fee.

I also was amazed at just how many people were waiting in line to get in. It would not be a fun wait on a bike.

They gave you a whole two hours? I wonder how that is supposed to work at 35mph - Link

I came into the park at the Big Oak Flat entrance. Its only about 64 miles to Tioga Pass from there.

i guess at this point it will be so hot next week along 395 side I was thinking of going up 41 thru fish camp and out through big oak. then continue north of yosemite. but I've never been north of 100 giants in sequoia so its all new to me

Used to love 41 on a bike, decades ago when it was empty, but now it sucks. I'd recommend taking some extra time to thread along the Sierra foothills through places like Trimmer, and Auberry. There even be some dirt in them thar hills! Yosemite is a mob scene, but if you've never been there, it's a must see - just not this year. Better to continue along the foothills and then go over Sonora pass.

Thanks for the invite. Would love to join you but I’m thinking it might be just a little too warm for me tomorrow. Take lots of water and have a great ride.
