For anyone that is interested in the prep of this trip, the original thread is here. It is a thread full of packing ideas and suggestions, inmates with route ideas, and some other inmates that have their own CSCs answering my questions.

Today is finally the day that we fly; bikes are paid for, flights are checked in, bags are over-packed, and the Covid is back in full swing. If this trip would have been planned for a month from now, I would have postponed until next year, but unfortunately, it's hard to predict a pandemic 2 years in advance. So the best we can do is wear masks near people, bring plenty of hand sanitizer, and camp where no one else is.

    A little backstory:

This trip came about 5 or 6 years ago when a college roommate and I first saw the RX3 and thought it was so cool with its styling and included hard luggage. Fast forward 4 years and he got married (my girlfriend won't let me forget), we've both bought houses, and I bought a used F800GSA; the RX3 just didn't have the same allure as it once did. We talked about the trip as if it would happen, but never really planned anything through college. Then one night after some beers he seriously asked if I wanted to do this and I said yes and his wife said yes and my girlfriend said yes; so we started planning. Naturally we decided on an SG250 and a TT250 as suitable rides for a trip that will eventually take us over 3000 miles, cover 10 states, and will hopefully summit Pikes Peak.

We pick the bikes up Saturday morning in Azusa, head for the coast, and then East.

Wade and Sara met us this morning to pick up the bikes and spent 2 hours with us while we set everything up. @TUCKERS showed up to say hi and chat about things for a little before he had to leave for his own ride. It was great meeting you, James! If you're ever in Pittsburgh, let me know.

The Mosko Moto Reckless 80 actually fits the SG250 really well! They aren't lying that it'll go on anything.

James's TT250 is also loaded up, but I haven't taken any pictures of it yet.

We're currently at In'n'out burger since we haven't eaten yet today and then we're going to Top of the World, Long Beach Indy track, and then up towards Santa Clarita for the first service and a hotel.

So far we have about 30 miles covered and the bikes run like champs! Even with all the extra weight.

This is good to news, I thought it may be too large. On my SG, that muffler gets pretty hot. Looks like plenty of clearance between it and the bag but I'd keep an eye on it for a few miles..

I've burned myself on that dumb muffler at least 4 times today and if you let anything nylon touch it, it's instantly melted. But! Mosko includes a very nice heat shield with the bags and it really does it's job. It sounds pretty cool though on deceleration because of all the pops and burbles it makes.

On tonight's list of activities is to try to add some preload to the rear shocks because it was a very bouncy ride today. The stock setting is a little on the soft side for an extra 270#. It rides pretty comfy though without the extra 50# of gear on it.
