This ride has been organised by the KLR Ramblers group and will go from Riverhead up to Kohukohu on the Saturday, then around some of the nice gravel roads in between SH1 and SH10, north of the Pureora (doh.... I menat Puketi) Forest in the Peria area on the Sunday, then back to Jaffacity on the Monday.

These rides are pretty laid back, there's plenty of sealed road to get up there but interspersed with some very nice gravel roads. There is very little time on SH1. There's no off road riding (well, no planned off road riding!!) and no beaches either. To give you an idea of the ride, the bikes coming at the moment are:

    2 x 650 vstroms
    1 x klr650
    1 x BMW650
    1 x Honda CL350 scrambler
    1 x Africa Twin
    1 x Yamaha 250.

The 250 has no problem keeping up on the gravel, or on the seal for that matter.

As you can see the KLR is well outnumbered!
Rider ages range from young and impetuous to old and foolish (that's me folks!!)
However old you are you will know you have been on a decent ride at the end of it.

We are all staying at the Treehouse Backpackers in Kohukohu on the Saturday and Sunday nights. Its a Labour Weekend ride so if you want to join in the perhaps best to see if there's any room left fairly sharpish. A few of us are so keen we are going up on the Friday night too. If its full there is other accommodation in Kohukohu and more just a ferry ride away at Rawene. There is fuel at Rawene when the shop is open. Not 24/7 I am pretty sure. Fill up at Kaikohe on the way in. Come across on the ferry, turn LEFT and follow your nose for 5 mins, you're at the backpackers.

A lot of the route will follow the NZT2B route but there's plenty of time for a lot of other cool roads as well. We are not going up to the Cape this trip, but you can if you want to. All routes are flexible provided you bribe Andrew with enough beer.

Here's a link to the ride invite :

there are gpx files to be downloaded there if that's your thing.

If you are not a member there you wont be able to see it, so if you want to come just let me know.

For those planning coming up on Friday,be aware that the last ferry leaves Rawene at 7-30pm.

Ride report!! See what you missed :) We (metaphorically) lost an AT and a Yammy 250 but gained a DR650 and a KTM 1090.

Tracks of where we went (more or less) are on the ramblers website.

The Treehouse Backpackers in Kohukohu is highly recommended as a fun place to stay.
