We hope to get out to the Island for a ride around Lake Cowichan in April. Can any of you local dualsporters tell us about taking the road all around the lake past Youbou to Nitinat and back. Is it legal to ride this area? Is it Indian land? And what about south to Gordon River and on to Port Renfrew? It looks great on the map. Is it? We should have 3-4 days of riding. Or would you recommend another area? Any ideas would be great. We will most likely be coming during the week rather than the weekend. We'll be riding a new KLR and XRL. Anyone is welcome to show us a good ride. Will post firm dates later. Thanks in advance.

Those are all public roads, no problem getting through. Depends on what kind of riding you like, but these are all mainline logging roads so they won't be challenging at all.

There are a lot of side roads you can take as well. Let us know when you are coming and I'm sure we could round up a crew to show you around.

We prefer real twisty and hilly non mainline dirt/gravel roads.Don't we all. Dualtrack and some single track that a good rider on a KLR can handle is always nice. Exploring new stuff. We're not destination oriented. Whats the scenery like around the lake? We like to cover ground briskly but also like to stop and enjoy the vistas and maybe take a few pics. 300kms per day sort of thing if we're just covering ground. Whatever fun we can have.
