    Sorry but no

After ripping out my abs. I've been using the gps for speed and odo.

I have no plans to ever sell my bike and that is the only benifit of keeping the dash functional.

When I looked at this the problem appears to be that on the ABS model there is no input connector to the speedo unit, so you can get the wheel sensor but there is nothing to connect it to. If you look at the parts diagrams the non abs bike has an extra connector on the instruments for taking the input from the wheel. Either the cluster is completely different, or they just leave the connector off, I would open up the instruments and see if the header for connecting the wires are on the circuit board, other than that it replace with instrument cluster from non abs model.

Ive looked at the R wiring harness diagram and could not see the connector you refer to, but Ive been wrong plenty of times before, I really need to no more about the R wiring harness, if it was as simple as buying a new R speedo I would but , its not that simple. Bikes sitting in the shed, pulled down giving it some love and every time I walk past it I just want to rip that waste of a ABS pump outttttttt

so rip out the pump and keep the electronics.
I've been running for over 10k that way, ABS light on the dash stays on but that's about it.
I removed the pump and left the electronics package, replaced the hoses with non-abs hoses, all good speedo works, great brake feel.
new dash display is like 500 bucks......

I am kind of interested in going the other way, that is adding abs to my 2013 990
i haven't looked into it yet, but have you guys looked into the feasability of swapping parts between bikes?

So keeping the electronics, does this simply mean splitting the pump, what looks like the Electrics and leaving the harness connected, if so that would be great, and thanks Kinta

Stormdog , not sure where you regularly ride, but if it was as simple as swapping parts there wouldnt be to many around with ABS still fitted, have you ridden one with ABS on the dirt, maybe some of the newer bikes are starting to get somewhere, but not this particular system , but again this is just my opinion , I much prefer full control , now I'm not here smashing ABS but before I disabled it I thought it borded on dangerous

yup, I pulled the pump off , made a cover for the electronics package and that was it, speedo work, red ABS light is on all the time but that doesn't bother me.

On my 2010 I just did the disable switch trick for when I rode in the dirt.
I was riding through Puerto Vallarta in a rain storm this December and those cobble stones kind of got me missing the abs
The 13 is the worst of both worlds in that it has the short suspension travel and no abs.
It also looks like a lot of trouble for the little gain, the swap would have to include the disks as well as all the other stuff, so I will just have to stay with what I have for now

Took me a lot of searching to find this post! Thanks for figuring it out, bummed I have to keep the ABS circuit board unless I go to a R cluster, but good to know!

    Hi mates,

I've recently bought a 12MY KTM 990 Adv and just observed the ABS does not work..
ABS light stays on after engine is started; it does shut when bike is put in gear and moved. However, testing with the rear, it always skids..
Had a quick look at the fuses / removed the cover of the ABS unit and found this:

    abs wires.jpg

Can anyone decipher what the p/o did there?

    Regards,
    Alex

Would not pass Swedish inspections like that, you are required to have a speedo that measures the speed on something moving on the bike but might be OK where you live.

Think that is normal, the R model without ABS has the same wires there also.

The 6 pin is connector for ECU programming the others I have no clue.

Can you verify that the rear brake hose actually goes to the ABS unit and not straight to the rear wheel? Quite a few people disable the ABS that way...

On my 2010 the instrument cluster is bad (maybe moisture got in there, not sure, but cant read speed or trip), so I need to replace it anyhow. What I'm gathering here is if I were it get a 990 r cluster then it would be no problem getting rid of the ABS pump

You also need the speedo sensor for an R, that triggers off the bolts, instead of the ABS ring.

That sounds easy enough. Just expensive. But I have to buy a cluster anyhow. Thanks

And start cutting up the wiring harness to jack in and feed the signal up to the cluster, might be able to get away with cutting off the connector to the electronics on the ABS unit since one of them should give the cluster signal.

Its not plug and play since the non R does not have the connector to just install the sensor from an R model.

Okay, cutting up the wire harness is most likely above my paygrade. lol
