Thank you! I appreciate the Kind Words. There are actually a few Redfish ride reports on this forum. I kind of made Pop the center of the story and he is a bit of a celebrity on the FJR forums. I am just grateful to have him to ride with me still.

Regarding the awesomeness of the bikes, while I currently ride the Ass-Fault Gray 2015 FJR ES and it is clearly the best of the FJRs, my previous bike was a 2004 ST1300. As everyone on this thread surely knows, the 2004 was by far the best of the ST1300s in the fastest color, Coronado Blue.

I still miss that ST1300 sometimes. It was a great motorcycle.

Ha ! I recognize you now...I just read your RR...Wow Epic on so many levels...Your Father is an inspiration riding a big heavy FJR1300..I am going to be 69 this year and I am having some issues with the big red pig's weight..but out on the hwys its perfectly set up for many comfortable miles..So seeing your dad manage it and ride through his bad back issues...is a great motivator for me...I too have low back issues and a bad right hip...Not quite ready for the surgery but I'm getting there..
I have no motorccyclists other than me in my family...My parents totally discouraged me from getting a motorcycle until I was legal age that was...
I also have wanted to tour the West... Used to live in Tucson so I know the West is Best! But at this point a cross country trek isnt happening..Maybe in a few yrs with some of my riding buddies..But I would prolly have to wait for them to retire to have the time to take an epic jouney like yours.. I love the FJR1300s I have test ridden them and they fit me quite well straight from the factory,,Because of my age and issues with heavy bikes I removed the FJR from the top of my wish list.. But now after reading your ride report with your Dad..that has truly inspired me..The FJR is back on top of the list...:ricky
Thankyou for sharing your epic journey...:bmwrider BTW you look better on the ST1300 :deal

@Redfish Hunter In retrospect..what inspires me is your Dad at age 74 is still riding and doing the big trips...Thats the biggie..Having him on an FJR is kind of secondary..My desires to have an FJR are emotional and dont always follow a logical thought pattern...And now that I'm retired its difficult to get the resources together..
I already have a wonderful SportTourer...makes more sense to save my money for a trip out west on my ST...

    Trying to keep this short...
I loved my ST1300. I wanted an ST1100 but had NO money when those were in production. Right before Pop retired in '07 he asked me to find his Retirement Motorcycle. It came down to the ST1300 and the FJR1300. He bought a new '07 FJR and I bought a used '04 ST1300. Then we started riding places and venturing further from home. And Learning.

The biggest single advantage a new FJR has over the STs is Cruise Control. I cannot overstate the advantages of electronic Cruise Control. That alone reduced our fatigue levels.

I like the FJR platform but if Honda had ever refined and updated the ST I would absolutely have went with the Honda. The ST platform had so much potential and they just let it die.

Regarding Out West, I am not sure which Redfish Ride Report you read, I think there are at least 3 of them on ADVRider. If I can help you with any travel ideas, please feel free to reach out. I would love to see some pics of that ST1100 Out West.

Thanks..I read the ride report from 2019 The Black Hills ride....I'm quite familiar with the West..although its been a few years...Appreciate your insights nonetheless...
As for Honda they dropped the ball..
Neither ST platform offered factory accesories and neither platform saw any updates to their respective models except for the ST1100s alternator upgrade from the 28 amp oil cooled Alt. To the 40 amp air cooled unit..and the ABS1 upgrade to ABS2..
Honda saved all.the bells and whistles for their GL1500/1800 Goldwings.
I had an 01 ST1100 that the previous owner had retrofitted an electronic cruise control made by MC Cruise...it was excellent...I agree that a real cruise control makes a huge difference in your comfort and extends your range as a result... My current bike has a manual throttle.lock that actually works..it will hold.my throttle input..so it will suffice...
Correction... The ST1300 did come with an electric windscreen...That was the only factory accessory added to the platform...Everything else you wanted was... had to be farkled...

Attended a Ride Like a PRO class on Saturday. Lots of low speed maneuvering in the parking lot. It was a challenge turning the beast through the exercises, until it ‘clicked’ and I was amazed at how the big hondapotomus could turn.

Definitely glad I took the ST to the class. I feel I learned a lot.

Sorry, no action photos. It would have been neat to have a GoPro.
