Okay we are talking 1970's Kokak Instamatic photos scanned some 30+ years later here but what the heck. Me on my RL250. One of the first in New Zealand and when it was new probably the only street legal one in the world. We put lights and a speedo on it and got it registered (didn't need indicators and that rubbish then). Notice the bash plate made from plastic rear mudguard - very trick then! Traded the RL on a TL175 and the girlfriend learnt to ride on it but she never was much of a photographer. This is an actual Trials event. and my young brother who was 12 or 13 at the time learnt to ride on it as well As we were using the Trials bikes more often as Trail bikes and Suzuki and Yamaha had started introducing Enduro weapons (IT's and PE's) the Trials bikes were follwed by a succession of those things. Must get around to looking for another one I think.
1974 TL 125 currently ride it, it has a green tank sold new in Japan I was told, I will post tank pics when I unwrap it & take them.I put the old painted tank on to ride it , 1975 TY 175 currently ride it it is original other than I took it apart & painted & clear coated the frame & added extenders to the swing arm.1974, TY 250 traded for a modern bike wish I hadn’t, 1981 Bultaco Sherpa T 350 basement find sold it to a friend wish I had kept it too.
Curious, the shift lever appears to be painted red and is almost vertical. Is it the shift lever and why was this done?
That looks like an aftermarket shifter from Emgo. We always rode with the levers out of the way. Shifted with our heel. Of course you could not do that on an MAR.
So's it wouldn't get whacked by a rock or log or something. As lineaway stated, we upshifted with our heel.
soupbill, that blue Bultaco is beautiful!! I had a poster of that bike back in the day and always wanted one. A local bike shop had one of them on the floor. All my riding buddies thought I was crazy because we all rode enduro bikes. To this day I regret not buying that bike, and not getting in to Trials a long time ago.
Here's one that's not so pretty. It's been ridden hard by three owners and is still used regularly. It's currently my only Trials bike.
Where it all started 1973 1974 I was working at a Yamaha shop and never looked back Then in 1975 I went to the Kawasaki shop . Winter of 76 cross training . After that I switched to Montesa . No pics though My current TY that I’ve had for 20 some years .
Thanks,I contacted the owner of the Bultaco and ask him to sell it back to me he is considering it,with any luck I will have it back, if so I will be selling my Reflex,Tl,& two Ty 175’s .THAT Bultaco needs to be rode!
