Now back to a different wild side. The 103 acre lake sits in a 491 acre park. No park pass required to go wild in the woods around the lake. EA5B0B14-84E5-4549-957C-D8B122968332.jpeg

Wildwood Lake Wildlife Management Area is located two miles north of Branched Oak Lake in northern Lancaster County and is the largest lake in the North Oak Watershed project. There are more than 120 acres of virgin and native grass prairie open for public exploration.

Steam locomotive 710 at Lincoln Station in Lincoln's Historic Haymarket District.
The steam train, CB&Q 710, was built in the Burlington Shops of the town of Havelock in 1901. Havelock grew up around the bustling Shops, which the town’s developers had courted and won with an offer of free land. Locomotive 710 first served passenger trains, then was retooled as a short-haul freight locomotive in the 1920s. By the 1950s, the steam era was ending and Burlington refurbished the steam engine and tender as a gift to the City of Lincoln in 1955. She was displayed on a hilltop in Pioneers Park until she was again refurbished in 1991 and returned to sit on Track One beside Burlington’s depot in the Haymarket. - Bill Harris

AllRoads.jpg The saying is that "All roads lead to..." this town. There must be something to it, I left Lincoln heading south and ended up here. As an item of interest (and additional clue), The legendary Lloyd McCarter and the Honky Tonk Revival will be playing at a hoedown that the town's tavern is having this weekend.

The village of Roca. Made famous in a chant used in the 60’s in Memorial Stadium during Cornhusker football games. “All the way to Roca”.

This town on the Missouri was where the Nebraska State Teacher’s Association was founded. The historical marker stands alone in a field, I’m guessing that a school building was on this site in the past. 6472C569-6DAC-48F5-A578-A9CEFCC1ADBA.jpeg

Alternative sources of energy is nothing new. This business is claimed to be the last maker of this labor saving machine.

A small town grocery store, in business since the 1870's, and owned by the same family. The town was originally called Milton, but was changed when they discovered that there was another town in the state with the same name

An overlook of original prairie. I could hear the prairie chickens and almost see the buffalo roaming. IMG_3195.jpg IMG_3193.jpg
