    Hi Judd,
As you know there is a lot of bike traffic on some of these roads on warm weekends. Looks like the large groups are the Harley crowd. Some seem to stop and look around some of the small towns while others seem to roll down the road in a big group ride. I'm glad I took three days (although I must confess I spent a little time with friends I have in the area), it gave me a chance to look around a little bit more. Truth is I could ride the whole thing again next week and be well entertained.

    Jeff,
Richland Center is in a great area. I think one of the ADV guys is from there. Riding the ridges and valleys of the driftless area in SW WI is scenic and entertaining motorcycle wise. (Not so much so on summer evenings when the bugs come out - also true along the Mississippi.) A ride down the Kickapoo River valley (and some surrounding area) is well worth the trip from Green Bay. Perhaps we can hook up for that next season.

Regarding the cranberry harvest, a few times I flew a small plane up around that area in the fall. Circling some of those bogs as they harvest berries gives you a nice view not seen from the few roads in the bog areas. A short hop from Green Bay for you and Shelley in the plane . . . If you take to the air, keep an eye out for wolves. I was in a training session at Babcock last winter and we were tracking a pack of five in that area. (Oh yeah, and don't forget to call to see if the Hardwood [bombing] Range is active just south of Babcock [R6904 maybe?] before you tour around there . . .)

(Late edit: Just heard from a retired buddy of mine that lives up that way. Says he is going to work to help with the harvest for the next two weeks.)

Navigation buoy. Top half shows. Also appears on radar. Red marks the right side of the 9 foot channel when going upstream (red-right-rising) with green on the left. Red has pointy top, green flat top.

In a couple of months, it will be time for GR3 and the Hiawatha Rally, both good places to hang out for a couple of days, and both will get you close to a lot of that River Road scenery.

Darn, I'm going to miss them both. I'll still be in the deep south when the one in Minn starts, but thanks, Bear

Digging up an old thread here, but a few friends, my brother, and myself are going to do part of this route the last weekend of September this year. Thank you for listing all the great ideas for stops, and including so much history in your posts.
We did a trip to Buffalo county a few weeks ago that was inspired by your "Ear Popping" route, and it was awesome! I'm guessing this route will be just as fun. Anyone interested in coming along?
