I am writing you to announce a fund raising motorcycle ride this Saturday to bring attention to the on-going effort to eradicate polio from the planet. I am calling this the Long Day Around, if everything works you will be able to track my progress (or lack of) this Saturday in real time by accessing this link: https://share.garmin.com/wckoppa I will start the tracking to the link on Saturday morning before departing the Grayling Restaurant in downtown Grayling, MI. I will head east on my 310 GS to Oscoda, north to Mackinaw City, take the back way to Cross Village then south thru the Tunnel of Trees, Petoskey, Charlevoix past Traverse City, north on M-22 to Northport and then south on M-22 to Manistee. I will then head east again thru the Manistee National Forest to Grayling. I will hopefully return in time for a celebratory burger at Spikes Keg of Nails - Meeting Place of the North. This route is over 500 miles, the weather report predicts brisk temperatures and lake effect snow. A trip of this length on only two lane roads by most measures is energetic. I hope it may encourage you to make a small donation. Donations will be matched two dollars for every one dollar by the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation. Your $10 becomes $30. Your $100 becomes $300. Last year they distributed more than 300 million Polio vaccines to contain this disease down to a handful of countries. When this disease is finally eliminated, they will be able to deploy those health care dollars to other worthy pursuits.
