What's everyone using for coolant? Just regular prestone 50/50 premix? I need to replace a radiator hose that got burnt but isn't leaking yet (long story). I did a search and didn't find anything convincing one way or another. The bike currently has a red tinted coolant which I think is GM spec coolant.

    BTW I have a 2009.

My Dodge has red tinted coolant as well. It was always serviced at the dealer by the previous owner. I bought some coolant there just to have some that matches what's in there since it needed a bit of a top up. If I have to mix up some 50/50 I always use distilled water which I also use to top up flooded batteries. Distilled water doesn't cost much.
I've also been lazy and haven't changed the (green) coolant in my KLX yet. It's a tad overdue. Shame on me.

Progress ,seems i'm making headway. Bike fired up after a couple cranks, idle when warm but searching then stops, restarts when hot. Maybe go from the 38 to 40 pilot? Drove it a little around the yard and up to the corner and back seem to run oaky under 4k.

Toyota Red! Back in the day I had an '84 Supra. When it had 114k miles on it, I thought I should change the anti-freeze. What I drained out was just as clear and clean as fresh made strawberry koolaid. Ever since then every vehicle gets Toyota Red. :clap

The coolant in my 2009 was green. I replace it with Prestone 50/50 when I change it. Works great and is available everywhere.

I’m tempted to try what Bill is doing.
Get a nice cylinder liner and make it fit on the lathe.
    Just see where it goes.

I took it for a short ride, pulls really strong up half throttle even pulls good in 6th with it didn't before. I guess those 100 extra cc's help.Maybe it won't blow up on the highway now.

So I would like to ask which piston is used in the 351 kit. I though it was a JE Piston 85,5mm but I do not know the serial number.

Looking for OEM? I’ve got a link to what I’m selling a couple pages back. I said I don’t want to ship...but if it were just the exhaust, I probably would.

Acerbis. That’s what I have, I like it and it has more capacity then any of the others I believe. A7300EAC-2056-4CE9-A173-B854D3DE8637.jpeg

The old owner also had installed one of the radiator hoses backwards which made it rub and burn. It was kinda surprising how little coolant the bike drained and then took to refill.

That’s great news! Did you ever figure out why it wasn’t getting fuel?

After drilled the starting jet It started running better, not sure it was because its bigger or maybe there was something blocking it. And then going up to a 40 on the main it starts so nice now even when hot and the spark plug is a nice tan. Now to get a tank of gas through it to break it in.
This was a long unexpected project, and I had to really think hard about replacing the trashed head and piston, but since I just bought the bike last fall and paid to much for it and having some time I went for it.

I have the IMS 3.0 gallon tank on my 2009 KLX250S. It replaces the main tank but maintains the shrouds and access to choke, etc. It has performed perfectly for the last 10 years.
