Exploring the beauty of island Brač

    Stina winery Bol, from 1903
    [IMG]

These narrow streets are reason why small cars are popular on island :)

Road from Bol is great, curvy road, good grip and beautiful panorama

    War equipment
    [IMG]

With 778m above sea level, Vidova Gora is the highest peak on the island Brač. Of course, there is beautiful view of Bol, popular beach Zlatni Rat.

    So, let's explore island Hvar!

Hvar is the longest island and sunniest place in Croatia.

I'm catching the ferry from Drvenik to Sućuraj at 7.30. Not so easy when you're late, but empty curvy road and great handling of Ducati are Win-Win combo.

    So, island tour can start!

Next small place is Sveta Nedlja, place famous by wineyards and good wines.

To reach Sveta Nedilja, only road is trough tunnel Pitve-Zavala. 1.4 km long tunnels was drilled in '60ies to deliver water and electricity to less populated places on island. One lane, without lights trough the mountain is little bit spooky, but also experience to remember. With DB Killer free Leo Vince exhaustes and V-twin, great :D

    And, Starigrad is next destination.

It is the oldest settlement on the island, founded by the Greek colonization of the island in the year 385/4 BC (Faros)

Faros was organized as an independant polis-town-state, a democratic community of relatively equal social status, which mostly worked in agriculture and commerce. The town forged its own money. Faros territory was protected by massive town walls, fragments of which still exist around the church of St. John and the Dominician monastery, as well as two forts.

Tvrdalj Castle is a well-preserved Renaissance building at the southern end of the main town square. It was the summer residence of Petar Hektorović, a Croatian writer and poet (1487–1572).

And the last place to visit today is town Hvar, the biggest settlement on island.

Hvar is the town of a unique cultural and historical heritage such us: the fortress, the Cathedral of St. Stephan, the Franciscan monastery, town loggia, the Hektorović Palace, the arsenal and the theatre.

It's very popular by tourists, and in summer overcrowded.

View on town Hvar and Paklinski islands.

And driving back to Sućuraj ferry port....

Road Jelsa-Poljica is the one of the most beautiful roads I've ever ridden... New asphalt, great curves, beautiful view.... And Ducati is great weapon for it!

License plate is on safe place. In garage. :D

There are lot of speed cameras, so that's the best way to avoid them.

When you need to go to Zagreb, capital town of Croatia, and 400 km of road is waiting, Ducati is logical choice... Not.

Driving trough dalmatian inland and Lika looks more like teleportation, with breaks for filling the gas.

On the way to home, I decide to visit Željava air base, yugoslavian top secret air base hidden in the mountain Plješevica. When bulit. it was cost 6 billions dollars, and was the most expensive military project in Europe. Air planes dissapearing in the mountain... WOW.

Looks like an amazing ride and beautiful pictures as usual.

That old air base is abandoned and it's ok for the public to ride in there?

The airbase is very cool! Its a pity they destroyed it when they withdrew from it...
Also take note that it sounds like there are still many active land mines on the property.
