Ok, Wunderlich and MaMo XHead 1250 covers will fit on the right side, but NOT on the left. (They actually do fit, but with minor interference fit. A braver rider than me, may be willing to file them down so they would fit) *2020 R1250GS with upper and lower Wunderlich crash bars
@Geek I see you are running AltRider lower bars with MaMo guards. Do you have clearance on both sides? My bike came with MaMo guards but no bars so thinking of buying either a Touratech or AltRider.
@falcofred I see that you are running Touratech lower bars with MaMo guard. I personally like the TT bars that altrider. I called Touratech and they said I need to buy spacer to fit the engine bars. Are you running spacers or not? Is the clearance even on both sides or how close is it?
I’m not running spacers, there is clearance, but it is very, very close in one area. I did crash test the L/H crash bar on asphalt The crash bar did not deflect, or bend, or contact the MAM head guard. I've got a friend who can polish a turd, he sanded out the damage and rattle canned it. Good as new
@falcofred thanks for the prompt response. When you say one area is very very close, is it the left side and if so, is it the bottom side of the guard or where exactly it is and visually inspecting how many millimeter of clearance you have?
The bottom aft is the closest and a post card will barely slide through. You might want a spacer kit, wouldn’t hurt.
I had to file the Mason on the left side but they fit great with the Altidore bars. I have gone down on rocks fairly hard. Without that combo, I would have fractured the head. I have all the faith in the world in the Altrider bars.
Does anyone know if the X-Head covers will fit with the SW Motech Lower crash bars on the 2019 R1250GS? As an alternative, was thinking of these ones from Touratech but not sure if there is enough clearance for my crash bars as well. Anyone had any luck with these on the SW Motechs? Thanks!
thanks! I managed to install but curious what you did on the left side, as there is barely any clearance (see pics below). I have read somewhere that installing additional/larger spacers may be the solution. Have you tried this? I just don't want to have to remove the left crash bar to get to the engine guard when it comes time for service..
Looking at your R1250gs it looks like the same problem I had with my R1200gs. Too close on the bottom left jug. See what I did for spacer (post 17 of this thread). Spacers add the upper mounting points to bring the top out, witch slightly pivoted the SW bars and dropped the bar running below the MAM X Head. I got paper thin clearance but would have to almost remove the bars for service. Not one to back track, I went to a welder/fabricator and had them cut and move the lower bar running near the MAM. No shims and no problem now. I tried to work with Twisted Throttle to see if there was a problem with the bars from SW Motech. Why they fit so well around the right side but not the left. It’s not like BMW has been moving the cylinders on the wethead. Seems like SW Motech would design bars with the same clearance for both the right and left cylinders. Rant over! Good luck with yours.
Good News: This is the altrider updated lower engine bars version which they redesigned according to them which will work in tandem with MaMo guards. Installed MaMo head guard & front fender extension Installed altrider skid plate along with their lower engine bars. I should say their is enough clearance between bars and guards. Pic1: exhaust side, Pic2: exhaust side, Pic3: left side, Pic4: left side, Pic5: left side, Pic6: gap between skid plate and extension at it's closest distance.
Installed MaMo guards with SW Motec bars today . Had to space out the top with washers on the left side. It is a snug fit but I can get the valve cover off without loosening the bar. I agree with other post it shouldn’t have to be this way!
