magic earth worked great for a few hundred miles worth of nav last weekend. im digging this app !
Goog map has a tendency to do some random dumb stuff on occasion for me.
Been using Magic Earth for how long ? and no such tomfoolery so far.
My recent message to Magic Earth support....
Here's the reply....
So it seems like it may be getting even better.
Yeah, their reply is bullshit.
Their servers are down.
I have all the maps I need now. But it was irritating getting them.
Their servers came back online about 45 minutes after I posted that. Went to download and got errors. I think I'll stick with Guru, OsmAnd, Locus, and sygic.
Sooo many options out there, I love it.
The Magic Earth rendition of OpenStreetMaps shows the difference between sealed and unsealed roads very easily and clearly, I'm just using it for planning at this stage before I generate a GPX in Mappite.
I then open that GPX up in OsmAnd and use that on the move. Hooray for OpenSource.
last weekend i used it again for street navigation on a few hundred miles.
super fast, traffic notifications, And no drama.
I'm digging the distance to next turn count down and the big bold turn direction symbols.
The link in the first post doesn't work.
I'm getting a message "The page you are looking for is no longer here, or never existed in the first place (bummer). You can try searching for what you are looking for using the form below. If that still doesn't provide the results you are looking for, you can always start over from the home page."
Google search send me there too....
Try this one > https://www.magicearth.com/navigation/
"mind your speed"is cool too
Haha. I wish I had better choices to select from. The generic robot isn't very cool
There's several different voices and accents in each of a BIG bunch of languages to choose from. Settings> General > Sound> Voice and Language.
The TTS installed on my head unit is shitty. Doesn't matter what I select on that screen (3?) English options?
Right now i'm looking at
American; Emily, Michael.
Australian: Chloe, Oliver.
Canadian: Jacob, Olivia.
Kings English: Elizabeth, Jack, John, Sophie.
Irish English: Adam, Ella.
South African English: Kayla, Kevin.
Latvian, Tagalog, Portuguese, Indonesian....it's a big list.
I'd be glad to record the audio...
Seriously. It matters what TTS you have on your device. My phone sounds completely different.
That sucks man, sorry to hear it ( no pun ). FWIW my nav device and phone are both Kyocera Duraforce Pro's.
Yeah. I have a Duraforce Pro on the bikes, I use a OnePlus 6 for my phone but I use an Android head unit in my 4runner. It's an older version of Android and customized from the manufacturer. It's not normal. Lol.
