It's been 5 1/2 months since I have had any serious Edventures. I have been back in Southern California earning and saving money so I can get back out on the road to explore and experience more of the world. I have been guiding tours in Baja Mexico if you can call that "work". While the tours are fun, I need to get off the grid, into the jungles and go deep into places where the tourist don't go.
My Magic String is still with me but it has seemed to have run out of power. So I decided to supplement the power of the string with the power of my Lucky Flip Flops (you remember those - right????????) Yep, that's them in the photo.
I have be planning this trip for a while now. And I have been assembling some new gear to bring with me.
My first step was to get rid of the Givi Box on my Honda CRF250L. I liked the fact that it locks but was too cumbersome for some serious off-road riding. Because it is ridged, it vibrates a lot. And that vibration along with the weight has been breaking my rear sub-frame.
Despite serving me well over the past 6 years, the Wolfman luggage I currently have on the bike offers a very small carrying capacity. Originally I was planning to get a Giant Loop bag until I came across this product made by Mosko Moto out of Oregon. The thing I didn't like about the Giant Loop is the gear in the bottom of the "legs" was difficult to access. This Mosko Moto Reckless 80 bag solves that with 3 separate water proof compartments. Plus the quality and workmanship are first rate on these Mosko Moto bags!
The other thing I finally broke down and got was a real seat for my Honda. As most of you know, I have used Sargent Seats on my other bikes that I used to travel the world with. In Asia, I sort of figured that I could modify my stock Honda seat myself to make it more comfortable. Labor is cheap in Thailand so I had a guy customize my seat to try and make it more comfortable. I figured I could make my own Sargent Seat (since I did it before at their factory in Florida. But I failed miserably. I suffered with this thing that I had a tough time even calling a seat for the next few years but now my suffering is over. I had Sargent make me a real seat and it turned out great. I can't wait to put it on my bike!!!!
My poor little Honda has been sitting for almost a year. The old lead acid battery will surely be dead when I get back to it. So I am bringing a Lithium Battery made by a company called Antigravity - made right here in Southern California. I wasn't honestly familiar with these new Lithium motorcycle batteries. I knew the Li batteries are being used in cell phones, computers and electric cars with great success. But now that I understand the technology better, I am a believer! First off, they are about 6 times lighter than a typical lead acid battery. And lighter weight is always a good thing on any bike. They offer more cold cranking amps. They don't spill when turned over. And they hold their charge when not in use (a good thing if the bike is being stored for long periods). Lead acid batteries have been around for 160 years without much change. Lithium Ion is the battery of the future and the future is here now. If you are still using a lead acid battery, then my guess is you are still using a flip phone too!
This new Edventure starts next week. As always, I will try to update it often. But since I will be traveling off the grid as much as possible, I may not be able to post all my photos until I find a place that has internet. And for my sake, I hope that doesn't come often. So if you don't hear back from me for a while, know that I am out having fun deep in the jungles.........or I am dead.
And if I am dead, it probably won't be on the bike. It will be because that crazy Thai guy found me and put a bullet in my head like he has been threatening to do for the past 2 years.
If you are following along for the first time and none of this making sense, then you have some serious catching up to do.
The stories of Magic Strings, Lucky Flip Flops and Crazy Thai rapist killers will all start to make sense.
And with this trip, more legends will surely be born.
    Stay tuned.

Oh F ya! I was gonna bump one of your reports before rip to the tip popped up because I missed seeing you on the front page.

I consider myself somewhat of an Ed-venture aficionado but the crazy Thai killer doesn’t ring a bell. Doesn’t Tam’s brother live there??? Possibly Joop related? Somebody fill me in.

    You guys are way off.
This crazy Thai guy is nuts. Two years later and he still won't drop it.
He even posted naked pictures of me on my RR and the mods had to delete them.

Well, I think I'm going to have some fun again.
I see that the BYOS (or Bring Your Own Seat) is on the CRF250 too. Was laughing when seen the pictures of you arriving to Budapast with a VFR seat to find a matching biike to it. At least this time (hopefully) you have a bike to start with.
BTW I hope your VFR is taken good care of in Europe (is it staying with Rad?) I still have a place in my garage for that blue lightning in Budapest. :-)

Yikes! A new Adventure! Always interesting and entertaining. But one question: The last I heard you were (permanently) in love. Where is she?
