Great report. :clap I thought the videos were great. I personally prefer the clips to be longer than ten seconds, so you can get a feel for the road. I understand cutting the long repetitive sections down to keep the excitement up. Either way keep up the great work, another awesome ride report. I can't wait for the next one.:clap

One request. Can you list your videos on Youtube? That way we don't have to search through the entire thread to watch them again. :lol3

Guess who went back to DV this week.
    China Garden Spring. :D

We stayed near Ballarat this time, so we didn't get to check on the Lippencott cone... Somebody is missing out on the good juju.

    Hi Aimee!
Wow, you're taking such good care of your little guy, he looks just as good as the day I left him in the teakettle. :D
Looking back, I wish you had taken both of them (him and the cone)...

Matt checked on the Lippencott cone back in December 2012 - it was gone!
So far, no one has signed in to claim him, so I can only imagine that someone grabbed him and couldn't be bothered to post. :cry

I guess I forgot to mention that the good juju only works if you sign in and get your cone activated...
    Otherwise...

    Brady Bunch tiki curse time!

    :lol3

Thanks for the update, Aimee - hope you guys had a great time!
    (maybe a RR? :ear)

This is a great RR and will help others with the planning of their ride in the DV area. :dllama:

I know it informed me of a lot of roads and things to see that I did not know about. :dunno

And they did it 2 up, so you know it can be done.:ricky

Thank you Little Wan for fixing the links so they work and the videos are great. :wings

And I hop to meet you 2 down the road sometime and I need to find one of those coneys cause I need all the good riding juju to follow in your tracks or I will be :muutt.

    On to your next report.:happay

    Hi gregoblv,
Thanks for the bump! Hope you make it out to DV. :D

It's a huge pain in the ass to go back and fix everything that got broken in the XenForo changeover, but it drives me crazy to see the posts all mucked up.
On the up side, there are always new things to be learned while fixing broken links. For example, Cali Luv, the centerfold from Ballarat...

Got a boob job. here she is getting a tattoo of a pitbull.

    I hope you're enjoying The Baja Wan-Thousand,
I just finished fixing the one after that (Vegas to Reno) last night, so it's all ready if you're a glutton for punishment. :lol3

Unfortunately, the cone fairy has retired (Redog1 found the last missing cone on the OBDR),
but I'll let you know if that ever starts up again. Still hope to see you out there on the trail someday!

Looking forward to an update. :clap

Just a couple of days ago I was thinking about the two of you when I posted this photo on a camping thread.

I still have my Safety Cone and it still rides in my tank bag.

I think they are both into trials riding now, not sure if they are on here much anymore? Maybe we can get some trials ride reports to hold us over?

    Hi Ladybug!

Thanks for the coney pic! He's so cute sitting in that chair :)
You're taking great care of him!
Our coney rides with me now, but he's looking pretty rough - he works so, so hard. :knary

    Hey @advrockrider !
Yes, you are correct - we haven't been on ADV much in the last several years.
    Trials, trials, trials!
We rode our trials bikes yesterday, in the mud. In 43° - brrrrrr.

But, we've been riding bigger little bikes too. :D

OK, This ride report stuff is harder than I remembered.
Just trying to work on my picture "skills" - I haven't posted in soooo long.
I need to figure out a better way to get photos off my "smart"phone and onto photobucket.
And how to get screen captures from video.

    OW, my brain!

Back to work, next post will be Death Valley stuff - I promise!

    Hey Guys -

thanks for waiting. Man, I forgot how to do just about anything ADV related.
Is this even the right shade of orange text?

    It has been years. YEARS!

How is it that in the almost 8 years since posting the RR , no one has checked in with this thread and given us a porn update??
    What?
    Slackers!! :nono

Oh yeah, one thing real quick - to anyone who has tried to alert me to something (earburn, or quote or that @ thing...)
    Sorry for not responding.
I have signed in here and there and have seen that I have X number of alerts, but then when I try and look, it says "you have no alerts."
So I think they expire or something.

@mtnbikeboy left a nice comment back in july and I never saw it (sorry!).
I feel bad for all the alerts I have missed out on :(

ALSO - I just noticed (today) that if you don't have an adblocker, there are things in the RR that look like my linkies,
but when you click on them, they are monkey-fighting ads! Ads! for stupid shit. What the hell?

Like, if you see {{{ earmuffs }}} and it looks like a link, if you click on "earmuffs" it's a friggin' ad for earmuffs on Amazon!
There was that photo of the burro at the warm springs and I wrote that we shared a fuji apple with him -
"fuji apple" looked like a link and when I clicked it, it took me to some fuji apple thing for sale on amazon.
This is total bullshit. Ruining all the fun linkies.

    I'm super pissed about it.

So, if you click on something and takes you to amazon or walmart or some crappy site - I apologize! Not my intention.
    Grrrr.

    OK, ranting over.
    Let's go to Death Valley!
Oh, but first - I'm going to push trials on you guys a little. :evil
The whole reason we ended up in Death Valley is because we were going to go to Keyesville for a trials event.

Some super cool people from our trials club just started a new trials organization,
    Southern Sierra Mototrials Club.

There's Sac PITS in northern CA (our club) and SCTA in southern CA - this new club (SSMC) bridges the 2 clubs and intends to hold events in the middle of the state.
    It's pretty cool.

So, to show our support, BigWan and I (along with a couple dozen of our trials friends) were headed down to the Kern River Classic.

It was a fantastic event and the riding there was awesome.
Wonderful, sandy, decomposing granite and some spectacular rocks.
unfortunately, I had no idea I was going to do a ride report so I didn't take any photos.

Luckily, I was able to steal a couple from friendface. (linkie)

drone video on facebook, link below

Sac PITS had a good turn out - we love Scott and Allison Head (SSMC founders)

So, if any of you readers are interested in trials and want to check out some cool riding in central CA, contact SSMC!

    Ballarat - Goler - Mengle

We made our way from Keyesville to Ballarat on monday morning.
Again, didn't plan on doing a ride report so no pics! :cry

Rocky wasn't there but we talked to some guy named Chuck.
He said Rocky had gone to Ridgecrest for the day. We chatted about all the heavy rain they've been having.
I looked around the store and noticed that the Cali Luv poster was gone.

Also, they have a gift shop now.

We paid 5 bucks for a night of camping. It's just a big, flat lot near the cemetery.
I tried to see if I had a photo from 2012 but this is the closest I could find (I have too many damn pics in these RRs)
Camping lot would be a little more to the left of this pic.

Did I mention that I hadn't planned on doing a ride report?

If BigWan hadn't been carrying his phone, I wouldn't have jackshit for you guys.

We left Ballarat and headed out towards Goler.

It was beautiful but you'll have to take my word for it because - no pics. :(: :dizave
I was anxious about the steps, but they were gone.
Everything was filled in. Easy peasy.

First photo in DV is this - me at the top of Mengle.

I was nervous going down the backside to Geologist's cabin, but it was fine.
    Fewer rocks than I remembered.
(not having pics of the trail is killing me, you guys! :bluduh )

Good thing BigWan thought it was pretty cool I was riding. He took more than I would have...

here I am, pulling up at the Geologist's cabin.

First thing I did was check the outhouse. :jive
    I love these cabins!

OK, larryboy - here's how this one looked on monday, 12/9/19

Nice looking sleeping bag hanging there... I hope it's safe from critters.

Signed the guest book on the table. I think I wrote something about "on my own bike this time!" with a happy face. Woo! :ricky

selfie - again, thank goodness for BigWan being so thrilled I'm riding! My camera is gathering dust in a drawer somewhere...

He took a couple as we were leaving

You can just make out my tail light...

BigWan took a quick ride up to Barker Ranch but I opted to mosey on down to Goler.
I figured that catching up to me would be the most fun he would have all day! :lol3

I actually waited for him at the turn off for Newman Cabin.
I can't even write that without thinking of this video, :rofl

    hee hee!

This is a pic from 2012, the sign is really faded and falling apart now...

Goler. I really enjoyed the ride down. So pretty!

The road back to Ballarat (Indian Ranch Rd?) had some mud that I didn't like (make mud your favorite!)
But then it also had these cute burros.
We had to wait for one little dude to cross the road to catch up with his buddies.

    they have the best camouflage!

BigWan took some pretty moon pics.
I couldn't decide which one I liked better, so you get both.

Hmm. I did something weird so they are different sizes. :scratch

Edit - all the photos are huge! I can't remember how to fix that. Sorry!

    And, that's it!

Well, considering that we weren't planning a report, I managed to drag that out quite a bit.
Hope you guys aren't too disappointed. I tried to set expectations appropriately.

The next day's riding should be better. BigWan is even making a short video for you.
(don't get excited! I am the most boring person to watch, EVER. :bore)

    thanks, guys!
see you tomorrow (or wednesday, if I can't get faster at getting stuff on photobucket).

Thanks for the Trials update. I'd love to come down and watch some time so I joined the facebook group so I can see when things are going on. I'll probably be down that way a few times this next year.

The DV report might not be what I'm used to from you but it sure makes me want to be there. Thank you for taking the time to do it. I sure do miss the two of you and the reports.

    I'm THRILLED you are riding.......Wahoooo!!!!!
