URGENT call to all March Moto Madness riders, and anybody that comes to this area to ride.

I just learned of a plot by the few homeowners on the north end of Starr Mountain to try and close the road access off Hwy 39 (aka Mecca Pike). Apparently they think they have legal standing to force the Forest Service into closing it to the public if they don't maintain it or some shit. I implore everyone to call the Tellico Ranger District and voice your opinion of support for keeping it open to the public. I'm not sure what all the legal this and that is with all these properties that butt up again national lands, but we've lost enough roads already. This should be the number for Tellico Ranger Station, (423) 253-8400. And here's the number to Supervisor's Office in Cleveland TN, (423) 476-9700.

These homeowners have actually taped plastic bags over the signs on Hwy 39 for FS 294 and Starr Mountain Access.

Pass this on to other threads/forums too.

I can't find FS294 on Google, I think it might be labeled Forest Service Road. Is that correct?

Not sure Google knows all the road numbers. But it's actually 297 on that end and it's the one and only road that runs the spine of Starr Mountain (but it turns into 220 and 44 along the way. Three ways to get there, off Hwy 39 on the north end, then two more toward the south (both of which come off Hwy 315 / Reliance Rd. Used to be an access from the Etowah side (297 I suppose) but that's been closed a long time too.

Starr Mountain is actually in the Ocoee Ranger District (it's the border), so either call that district, (423) 338-3300, or the Supervisor's office.

Thanks for the info. Every year it seems like a few roads here and there are either not open yet or just closed.
I guess the locals just think it's their own personal drive way? LOL

what's the riding like at MMM? I will more than likely attend this year. I ride a 950 super enduro but prefer some fun trails vs. pavement. nothing stupid hard but more challenging than a FS road. I don't want to hold folks up on a ride but also don't want to wander around on FS roads either. I've ridden most of the paved roads in the area over years of street bikes, but don't get there much on the DS...

will probably come up friday morning and camp. anywhere to hang a hammock?

lastly I seem to recall an obstacle course or something similar. will I miss out on group rides if I want to give it a go?

I was one of the first to hang at MMM a few years back, seems like a few more hammocks show up each year. It's generally not too big of a problem to find somewhere, and Mickey doesn't mind.

Plenty of places for the 950 SE to eat. :dukegirl The forest service roads but also trails 81 & 82, the power line and a few others.

The trials course is Saturday at 3.
