Shouldn't you use a canoe for that?
Canoe? Where does the engine go?
Planning to go Nelson tomorrow morning via the Maungatapu.
Anybody keen to join me?
Speedo crapped out on the husky, trying to troubleshoot that.
Got one more day of work
Work? As a teacher?
When did that start?
Anyone keen on a ride through Molesworth tomorrow, Monday? Heading through 2up and staying in Hanmer.
Have to work .
Righto, @Kokopelli , Ross and moi are thinking about doing the Rainbow-Severn-Molesworth run sometime this week. Anybody else interested?
We haven't set a date yet, and most likely try to avoid Thursday and Friday, for those who have to work.
I'm from that tiny offshore island a little to the north of you guys. I planned to come down once rainbow is open and do the loop so I'll keep an eye on this thread.
At this stage I'm looking at Saturday, weather looks good then. If anybody can't do that, sing out.
Hi there. A very long time lurker here.
I'm planning to do Molesworth on Saturday afternoon and depending on how that goes, the weather, and whether it's open, hoping to do Rainbow on Sunday.
It'll be my first real adventure ride, so am excited and apprehensive all at the same time.
So, if you happen to see a me in the pink and white helmet, on my G650 GS, pottering along, wave as you pass by :)
So, Severn won't be open till the 4th, so we're going through Hanmer .
Leave Renwick 8am ish, refuel in St Arnaud , Rainbow road to Hanmer , refuel and lunch, and then the Molesworth back home .
Anybody been through the Iron Bridge - Denniston track lately? Might cruise through in the 4wd in a week or 2. What's the current situation with access at the Lyell end?
So how did it go? Would be intetested in your impressions of it.
Fire risk probably more of an issue than anything else,
pretty rocky couple of downs and ups where the valleys get in the way,,
was well signposted by thoughtful mountainbikers last time I went through.
I went a few km on Tuesday on a fully loaded S10
Never been in there before (mate had) and we stopped up the top of a bit of hill before what I think is a decent decent?
Nice spot, but maybe not for a whale eh?
Well, the weather was perfect and the Awatere Valley was so inviting. New tyres, and a new tent, I felt prepared.
I started off with the best intentions, but quickly realised that going on my own with my novice gravel skills on a fully loaded bike wasn't the brightest of ideas, so I turned around after 500m of gnarly gravel, and went to Waiau via the Inland Kaikoura route instead. I was gutted, but relieved, at the same time. I was so looking forward to it.
However, all is not lost. I did do the Port Underwood road last week on my way to the TT2000 Long Distance Rally. That was very satisfying.
Will try the Molesworth again next summer, with a few others, I hope.
