Two weekends ago I participated in an awesome rally in New England called Minuteman 1,000. For the fellas who are not familiar with this rally, it's a 24 hours/1,000 miles one, where you can gain an Iron Butt certificate.

I just did a 36,000 mile service, at my friends garage. Thanks for all your help Mr. Keith Speegle :bmwrider "The Motorcycle Consultant" Installed an Remus "Y" pipes to join Akrapovic can. What a dream, My "Pony" is running flawlessly and out of a little "smudgy" Ohlins feeling, we were ready to go to the end of the world and back !!!

So in order to make it all perfect, for this rally, I decided to have my shocks rebuilt. Considering that I live in NYC, the city that never sleeps, but doesn't have an Ohlins service center and did not have enough time (10 days prior to rally start) to send them to Ohlins direct, I decided to call Max BMW and try to schedule a service a day before the rally start.

Tom, the service manager at the NH location, understood my problems and gladly scheduled my service under my short time frame requirements !!!!!!
Bravo, Life is good After a 240 mile ride to Portsmouth, NH I was in
front of MAXBMW building at 9AM, first in line. Soon after booking with Tom, a young fella set my bike on a lift and started taking it apart. Tom sad "That's Max, he is the owner " Sure, I was pleasantly surprised to see a dealership owner working side by side with the other techs
While Max was working on my bike I went across the Route 1 to grab some fresh farm eggs and bacon. Thanks Tom for recommending that 100 m walk, food was awesome and it hit the right spot! :dg :clap
When I came back, Max informed me that a bleeder on my front shock should be replaced and that unfortunately he does not have one at the time Now I understand why I had to play with my set up every other day for the last 3,000 miles!
Sad, F... it, I'm not gonna miss this rally, lets put them back together and I'll deal with it later.

Max sad, we can send them out to Ohlins after the rally and if I have any problems to let him know, so he gave me his cell number. Bravo :wings Thanks a million and soon I was on my second leg that day, 140 miles to N Hampton, MA; Rally start location. On my way, made couple of stops, trying to find a perfect setup, but just after 30-40 miles down the road my setup would change. Damned, figure its gonna be back braking 1,000 miles tomorrow!

At the info dinner, Mr. Max showed up (MAXBMW was a rally sponsor, another great job ) so I had a chance to explain my problem to him without calling him up. One of the bonus check points was at his dealership, so he told me come by tomorrow and we'll figure something out. Cool, next morning 5AM we hit the road and after 700 ball/back braking miles I was back in Portsmouth, where Max was waiting for me with one of his techs ready, empty lift and freshly rebuilt set of Ohlins Shocks!!!!!!!!!!!!! :jump

"Give us an hour and You'll be on your way. I will send your shocks to Ohlins, with no extra charge and than send them to you so you can make a swap and send back mine. WOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAA could never expect service like this, not even in my dreams! :super After million Thanks, I was back in saddle, trying to make up some time and finish the rally at respectable position.

Rally it self, was just an outstanding experience, where I had awesome time, met great people.

Happy as a dog in a elevator, I hit the side roads back home. In CT I wind up at the Fox Woods Casinos and decided to try my luck, that
was obviously following me for entire weekend. Gave a $5 to Valet Parking guy, asking him to keep my bike in front of the casino, so I can quickly try my fortune. Went to roulette tables and drop the $20 on a number 28, what was my race no. BINGO :fall First hand and 28 black ! $500 winnings I knew that that's was it for a day, cash out, gave 20 to Valet boy and went back on a road, followed buy confused look of the same kid. Did I mentioned I was all geared up in my "Admiral" suit and big boots???? Hahahaha.......
5 days latter Tom gave me a call to let me know that my shocks are ready! Already????? Considering that I had such a great time, weekend before, I decided to get back on the road and made another swap at Max's shop. Was there at noon on Saturday, at 1PM was ready to goooooo. Did I mention No Extra Charge!!!???? Was recommended to take Route 113 for some great twisters. Woooooaaa my suspension is working flawlessly! What a happy camper I am ! Made another 180 miles that afternoon. Beautiful ! Blast by hundreds of Mr. Cools Low Riders, simply pissing them off. (Was an Laconia week) Next morning decided to take side roads all the way back home, no rush.

    Blow tire 295W; RI3.JPG

Somewhere on route 295W just entering RI my rear tire exploded !!!!! :becca What a bummer! :baldy Thankfully I managed to keep the bike on one wheel and one rim and safely pull it on the side of the road. Sunday morning in RI, don't know nobody, plus I assumed that all the motorcycle shops will be closed on Monday too! Called couple of friends wondering would they know somebody in the area who could help. No Luck for me this time. At such a hopeless situation, decided to give Max a help howl. Maybe he knows somebody around here !? After explaining my situation, Max said he will make some calls and come back to me in 15-20 min. Thanks a million! While I was waithing for Max to call back, a guy on brand new Victory, you know one of those weird looking ones, pulled over to offer his help . His name is Mike from border of RI and CT. He sad that a shop where he bought his bike is open on Sundays and that they might be able to help ! Great, you have their phone number ? Mike turned his back on me and rolled down his riding jacket. " Phone is somewhere on a back of my T-Shirt. Hahahaaa... there it was ! Called the guys up, but they did not had a towing capabilities !!!!???? Than Mike offered me to go home (50 miles away!!!) and come back with his truck What a guy !!!!!!!!! Falling in love with New England, what a wonderful people !!! Thanks Buddy, hope you'll come across this story too !
An 45 min later Max called me back: "Hey Stasha, I found a rim with a tire at my shop and I'm on my way down. Will be there in like hour and 10 !!! I was stunt, standing on a curb of 295W next to my bike, with traffic flying buy me with 70 miles per hour !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I did not even blink for next 20 minutes, thinking how lucky am I, how remarkable guy Max is, Thinking how can I ever repay to this guy
WOOOAAAAA .................... Mike, who was still with me, asked am I OK !
Hour later Max was here, with replacement wheel, all dressed up with his dress-dancing shoes :rilla and HE swap my wheel in a splash !!!!!!!!!!!!! "Max, how much do I owe you? Don't worry Stasha, you want me to send you your rim with UPS? Don't know right now, Max, can I take you for a lunch at least? No Thanks, just had a big meal. Gotta go back to NH" (like 80 miles !!!!) Jumped in a truck and waited for me to get my gear together and start rolling. As I was getting geared up I notice 2 RI cruiser's flying down the road with their lights on "Good Afternoon; Good Afternoon. What's going on over here? I had a blown tire and I wish you came by 2 hours ago !!! We heard you are hurt? No, I'm fine, but I wish you heard I'm here on the side of the road 2 hours ago. Bike looks fine and you tell me you are OK, have a good day. ?????????????? They took off with their lights on, like they are extremely busy people! Whatever, did not need them at all 2 hours ago, and as a matter of fact I was so happy not seeing them at all, but hey, If I can ever bust Trooper chops I will Hahaha........................................:ksteve
So Here I am, in "the safety" of my home, typing this statement to one remarkable man. After everything Max did for me I figure at least I can do is write my story and post it at every motorcycle site that I ever joined in to. As well I will send it to Munich headquarters, because they should know as well WHO MAXBMW IS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Max, You are one of the most generous, remarkable, humanitarians that I ever met in my life and I did meet thousands and thousands of people, all over the world, on and off the road. You are The True Biker and Real Sportsman, Gentleman.
Max, I want you to know that I owe you big time and will be there for you, wherever and whenever. All you need is to whistle !!!!
As well I would like to thank to anyone who had the Patience to read this "novel" on my bad, weird English ! You guys deserve a medal too

Why would you travel without a plug kit?

:D Glad it worked out for you. If I were closer, I would definitely check out Max's shop.

Haha! Yes, Max will go the distance for you, no doubt. Funny thing: The photo of the rear of your bike looks like a GS. If Max brought you a wheel with a Tourance with a good amount of meat on it, it came off my bike that morning - when they did tires for me on more or less zero notice for my upcoming trip. May it serve you well!

+1 for Max and Max BMW. :thumb

His brother Ben runs the NY location, and I can say equally good things about that shop. They have always been really good to me.

Great story. Glad you survived the blowout. :eek1

Refreshing to see a dealer in a positive light! So much bashing, but my experience over the years is mostly positive.
It seems Max is a cut above.:thumb Good for him!

    That's a great story.

Max called me Sunday to get a bearing on where you were and if I could get you off the highway. I was at my son's high school graduation which is one of the few things that can't take a back seat to helping out.

Oh and your photos from the Minuteman (at least the links) are on another forum and I can't see them with out a log in id.

    Ramage,

MAXBMW looks to me much more than a regular dealership. God, can not even compare with Corporate BMW of Manhattan !!!!!!! If I'm not so good with guys working over there, would get absolutely nothing from them !!!!!!!

Max by far is the greatest dealership i have ever had the pleasure to do business with. Either buying cars or bikes. I have bought two bikes from them since 2005. And it all started with trying to some answers on the 78 /7. No dealer wanted to take the time to answer a few questions i had about the /7 until I got to MAX. I even tried to buy tires from local shops in CT and they told it would 2 months before they could do anything. This is why i went to Max. I ended up buying a K1200LT from him in Sept of 2005 on a whim.

My wife and I were on a little weekend junt to Nh for our first annivesary. We stopped at MAx in NH and test rode the RT and the LT. The LT won for two up riding. Max closes at 4 Pm I think on Saturdays and we were there well past 6pM finishing the paperwork on the LT. Max stayed as long as he could but he had to get to VT and took off around 5. He left us in very capable hands. The entire shop stayed until we left.

Then there was the clutch problem I had headed to VT for the MOA. Max fixed under warranty no charge.

I just recently traded in the LT for a GS. That was another easy transaction. I will never buy from any other dealer.

The other nice thing is he rmembers me everytime I walk into his shop. Always asked how are things.

Great Dealer and even better person. Thanks for reminding me.

    :rofl

Now you'll learn why we try so hard to have the certificates correct for Sunday morning. I'm just now finishing the details of the event, then the stuff gets submitted to the IBA for the website and membership roster.

The corrected certificate works its way through the IBA and then to you.

If you want to follow the process best to do it via PM. :ear
