It seems the practice sessions went well. This is from the last session today. In the GTD class, Victor’s team was the fastest and if you look to the far right, Victor is listed as the fastest driver.

I think his weekend is done. He posted this update this morning:

It’s now up to the team owner but I see no reason why they would not enter the 24 Hours of Daytona but then again, I don’t have to pay for it. Lol His dad will let me know once a decision has been made. I’ve got air tickets on-hold.

Oh, man, you're killing me. I'd love to go. Let me start rationalizing this ......

    Go Victor!

I arrive Thurs around 7 pm, extremely early Mon departure on AA. I’ve got a hotel room and a car. I’ll pick you up, share the room, etc. Just get there.

Nice warmup for Daytona. Another race, another win. Victor looks wiped out.

If you look carefully at the front tire on the car behind Victor, you can see the front tire is shredded. It seems he drove at least part of the last lap on that tire to maintain second place. lol

Daytona was a real experience. @Bill the Duck joined me and we really had a blast despite the weather challenges on Sunday. We both were on the same flight arriving Thursday evening. Getting to our hotel was a piece of cake! Friday was kind of an introduction day to Daytona. The first thing we learned was that it was a mistake to park in the free parking and buy the time we decided to park infield, it was too late. If we go again, we'll make that part of the changes.

The weather was nice on Friday - we explored the track and got ourselves familiar with the layout. Friday was pretty much a rest day for the team as they prepped for the race which started at 2:35 pm on Saturday. The mechanics were busy though working on the team's Ferrari:

We were trying to stay out of Victor's way so we elected to wander over to the midway and visit the sponsors and vendors. Mazda's pavilion was pretty cool. They were "printing" people's photographs on your coffee's whip cream.

    Lol.

Friday night, we went to dinner at DeLand Fish House. Highly recommended if you're in that part of Florida. We were in no rush to get to the track Saturday morning knowing that we'd be there for about 30 hours or more. We quickly located Victor and introductions were quickly made. Victor is small compared to me. lol

All the team was similarly dressed. They were doing a group photo while we were there so I simply stood by the event photographer for a great picture:

The team as you can see is huge. Victor said that there were three people alone focusing on data.

One of the tiny perks of going to at least one of Victor's races a year is meeting others. Last year, he raced with Juncos and, as it happens, a contact at work is a neighbor of the team's head engineer. We stopped at their trailer, met the engineer who kindly took us over to their garage and gave us full access for a couple of pictures and questions. I was able to see the owner's wife again and of course, she remembered me from last year. Nice people, beautiful DPi car:

It was cool to see this race, a very different experience from the only NASCAR race I attended (trucks). Very up-close-and-personal. Our passes gave us garage (but not pit) passes, and we were able to watch all the cars being pushed to the track late Saturday morning. So much shiny! Here's Via Italia (not Victor) just after the start of the race. Friday's walking around taught us the best places to watch.

Sunday morning we managed to find the only two rows of dry seats in the entire grandstands. That's Gerry at the top of the stairs.
