This is a tale of Me and the Mrs.....and our wanderings in the west.

We shipped our bikes on the 12th of December (2014) from Rhode Island. I used www.funtransport.com They were not the cheapest option, but they were more specific about their dates and I didn't want to risk not getting them to Tucson in time. They picked them up right at the house:

And off they went. They strapped the bikes to a couple of pallets they brought. They are used to moving Harleys and other big bikes, so our little piggies were easy. The driver was a little taken back by noting all the scratches and dents and broken bits on our bikes. I told him, really, don't worry to much, ...we fall down a lot.

Then on the 17th, we shipped 3 boxes via UPS.
I didn't really take this into consideration, but this was an additional 60 lbs - the riding gear. 2 helmets, 2 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of pants and jackets, knee guards, rain pants, and 2 camping pads. Oh yeah, and 2 tank bags...those weigh a bit because I have some tools in there. Maybe a few other incidentals. No clothes, those will go in our drybags as a carry-on. All this stuff weighs more than I would have guessed.

We're sending all of that here:

to Frank at ZMW adventures ( www.zmwadventures.com ) in Tucson, Arizona. He's an expert at this.
He's been great handling the receiving end and letting me know when things arrived...which they did! The bikes were delivered to him on December 18th, one day earlier than the date range they quoted. Our boxes were delivered by UPS on Christmas Eve.

So that's the backstory. Our son in law is giving us a ride to the airport in the morning to catch a 7am flight. We should be in Tucson around 1pm. We'll head over to ZMW and meet Frank and get our bikes packed up. We're spending Monday night in Tucson, and then Tuesday morning we are heading for Wilcox. Will we make it?

We got to Tucson about 1 pm today, and took a taxi to ZMW Moto. Frank had our bikes outside waiting for us. We packed our gear on the bikes: [IMG]

After hanging out with Frank for awile, we headed across town to our hotel. We'll sort through all our stuff and get better organized for tomorrow. I noticed Lynn's headlight was out, so we rode to an auto parts store and got a replacement that I installed back at the hotel
    [IMG]
Then we took a walk and got some dinner. Long day today, up at 4 am after hardly sleeping...to excited to get underway.
Tomorrow we'll head for Redington pass and the first day of riding!

Every time my desire for a TW200 fades out, something like this pops up.

I really didn't need to see this... :evil

Fahr mit mir. I think that translates as 'riding with me'. I like to think she is.

Tuesday morning we headed east out of Tucson. Tanque Verde starts out as a 6 lane street, then narrows and eventually turns to dirt.
It climbs up into the hills. Looking back towards Tucson
    [IMG]
I wasn't sure of the condition of this road. This was my first route planned with a Benchmark Atlas.
Beautiful day, I'd guess in the 60's even at elevation. We stopped just after Redington Pass to shed some clothes.
It was here that I noticed we were off my gps route.

Hmmm. Looks like a better road to the left. I checked the atlas. That could be a spur out to an overlook. And the gps says take the right. And so we did.
    Definitely less travelled this way.
    Do I reconsider? No.
    We're enjoying the ride.
    There's great views.
    And interesting cacti.
Besides, the gps shows we're right on track.

I'm starting to wonder...could this not be right?

Frank described the route to me when we picked up the bikes. "You could drive a car through there...but I wouldn't drive MY car..."
At this point I'm wondering if I'm interpreting this incorrectly. Its turning into a challenging ride.

And there's gates. That seems odd for a well used route.
