It was in a really big over pack box too!
I thought the Cobra exhaust packaging was the shit and it was, but damn nice job with all the foam.
It's cool when people take the time to protect what they sell so you get what you bought.:thumb

Slight threadjack. Home track since 1967, my kids are 3rd generation. I was there that night with the car, do you think they told me 2 runs only when they took my money? :lol3 I ran bikes '89-'90, the same H2 is still there, running 9's. Daughter next up to run, bluetooth in the car will make it easy to talk her thru.

    Carry on.

That 500 is looking beautiful already.
Bringing a first year 500 back to life with your process will guarantee it will probably never be neglected in the same manner again.

Since there is some snowmobile talk....
Was at 131 dragway a few weeks ago to watch the snowmobile racing, as well as bikes.
Looked like several hundred snowmobiles showed up, not many 2 stroke bike from what I could see though.

Lots of shiny bits coming together for the old bike. Sure glad to have the parts bike. Some parts are really getting hard to find.

Just in case you run into an unexpected bs deal. and need to share some cussing. Mine today. Simple transmission repair on my Cheney 650 Triumph. As it turns out the motor mounts are welded and the inner transmission case won't come out without removing the engine.

Classic. Is there room to rotate the engine forward and up if all the mounting bolts are removed? Doesn't look like you need to make much clearance to pop the inner off.

A brief detour from the Cobra yesterday to work on the 78 GS1000. Would like to get the new tank together and put on the bike.
Just temporarily to get it running and check things out. The whole bike will come apart when it gets it's turn.
The petcock was in dire need of a rebuild.
    P1070150.JPG
Cleaned then soda blasted the parts before installing the K&L kit. Had to re-glue the inlet screen to the body.
    P1070552.JPG

Polished the seat for the vacuum operated valve. It's an o-ring seal. I hate vacuum petcocks but will use it at least for now.
    P1070553.JPG

A little fuel lube on the o-ring and the petcock seals.
    P1070555.JPG

Waiting on new mounting bolts and sealing washers.
    P1070557.JPG

Ordered a new gasket for the fuel gauge sender too. The new tank came with one installed and I'm hoping it works. I'll pull it, check it out and reinstall with a new gasket.
The unit from the original tank had the wire corroded off.

In my de-railed TZ thread I spent a post rebuilding the petcock, very therapeutic and on a really small scale as satisfying as building a whole engine !
I realise we are talking to a niche' group here :D

The zinc is back in state, might see it tomorrow or Saturday. Lots of things can start moving once it's here. Have to tell you that our friend @villageidiot has been working overtime making things happen for this build. Many thanks my friend. :super

    Parts cleaning and sorting continues.
Rear fender parts. All new except the cushion spacers.
    P1070594.JPG
Lots of cleaning to do on electrical parts. Picked the best ignition switch that even has a key.
    P1070596.JPG
It cleaned up well and ohms out good.
    P1070602.JPG

Have new shells for all the harness connectors.
    P1070603.JPG
Put ties wraps on the rubber boot to keep it firmly in place since it is a little weathered. P1070607.JPG

Not an OEM key but it works. Been looking for a factory pre-cut but nothing out there yet.
    P1070608.JPG
    Polished it up anyway.
    P1070610.JPG
There's a washer in the re-plate batch that goes under the nut. P1070623.JPG

The horn needs a restoration. There's a cool looking chrome grill that's out for plating. I need to get this stuff cleaned up and painted in the mean time.
    The inside looks like new.
    P1070612.JPG

Will have to re-plate some zinc parts.
    P1070621.JPG

Sand blasted and painted on one side. Will paint the other sides tomorrow.
