We're going to do a weekend ride on October 12-13. A real dualsport ride with lots
of dirt roads. Let's meet at Burger King in Willits at 9am Saturday the 12th.
From Willits to Fort Bragg via Sherwood Road, then up Hwy 1 to Usal Rd, to
Kings Peak and to Mattole Rd into Ferndale then Fortuna. Overnight in Fortuna,
you can camp or motel. We can get together for dinner. Sunday head east on Hwy 36 to Alderpoint Rd and south into Mendocino NF down to Covelo. Covelo to Lake Pillsbury via FH7 and M10 and out to Potter Valley and Hwy 20. From Hwy 20 you head home or where ever.

Numerous bail out points along the route and don't feel obligated to ride the same route. Everybody is responsible for themselves, food, lodging, etc. Go as fast or slow as you'd like. You don't have to sign up, you can just show up. I don't have any tracks but if someone wants to put them together that's fine.

Whether we have 5 or 25 riders it'll be fun.

Heavy rain cancels. Although the fall is usually the best weather along the coast.

Post up here if you're interested or, just show up.

After speak extensively with SanGJan we've decided to cancel the rally for 2019.
However, there's definitely going to be a 2020 Mendo Rally!
Also, if anybody interested I was thinking of doing a 2 or 3 day ride up in the area.
We have a great loop from Sonoma County up to Fortuna then back south through Mendo NF that goes by Pillsbury. I'm thinking September or October but I don't want to step on the toes of the North Bay MC Club dualsport ride on 9/28/-9/29. So maybe the weekend after Labor Day or mid October.

Probably motel it to travel light and everybody would be responsible for themselves,
just would be fun to ride together. Anyway, I need a little time to service my 701
after our little 3600 mile CDR to TAT ride.

So if you have an interest in a Mendo Rally ride (that's what we'll call it so we can
keep up our continuous streak) let me know.

Thanks for all the suggestions about other venues but I'd like to keep it at Pillsbury
    until we can't.

I've made an executive decision. We are going to have the rally and the dates
are Wednesday 9/4 through Sunday 9/8. The main reason being that's the last weekend we can reserve Fuller grove Group campground. It's not available at any later dates. That's the weekend following Labor Day so it shouldn't be too crowded at Lake Pillsbury.

With the snowfall this year the Lake should be full and since it's the end of summer the water should be warmer than our May visits.

I haven't made reservations yet. I want to get an idea of folks who are going to come. Last year we were a little low on attendance and were a few hundred dollars
short on cost. So, before we set a price let's get a head count. No matter what it's still going to be the best deal around. Hopefully, it'll be around $75 but I doubt it'll
go over $100 even if we only have 30 campers. You know I don't want to skimp on our menu!

Another benefit of a fall ride is Hull Mtn. will be accessible, in May there'll be too
much snow. Also, Middle Creek and Penny Pines OHV area will be open by then.

So let's start a list. Who's in for the Fall version of the Mendo Rally?

So about the rally this year. Middle Creek and Penny Pines are closed until July sometime. The rangers don't know when the Lake Pillsbury basin will be open for OHV's. Even the Sheet Iron is cancelled this year.

So I just would like to see what everybody would prefer. Cancel this year of move it to September.
I'm thinking 9/11-9/15. That's after Labor day so it shouldn't be too crowded. Weather should still be nice. Probably more dust on the trail later in the season. Of course with the trails opening later it might not be too bad.

So all you regular attendees and even folks contemplating going, what do you think?

Bummer Dean. I was hoping everything would be open by May. I really miss the rally & your cookin'! :-)

I doubt I can make a September rally because of other travel plans.

Thanks for the update & good luck,

September can be hot - I've camped at Pills in early October and it was perfect, but in looking at all the fire damage and how close it got to the lake, a lot of the rides we do south of the campground are probably not going to be the same for many years......bummer cause so much of that quadrant got scorched. Hard decision for sure.

I'm in for any time. Aren't trails closed right after our usual date due to fire season? How about moving up toward Colfax/Auburn one time?

I'm game for Sep/Oct. Lake will be nice and warm for lake bathing. I'm also ok with something in the Sierras/Nevada. The bad thing is that can be quite a haul for some of you near the Bay and coast.

DUSTY DUSTY DUSTY DUSTY nasty low lake.... yellow jackets...... fun!

I heard that all the trails on the Hull mountain side are open. Plenty of fun over there.
I feel like a majority of the attendees ain't even riding trails any how.
I would suggest just stay on schedule.

I am good (if no previous plans conflict) with what dates the group decides. I just want to ride and this is my favorite.

If we stick to the normal date, this may be a trip where I get my project 950 running and bring that.

I'm in any time. If the Pillsbury trails are open by May, then I vote for trying to keep it in May. But, if no trails at all will be open, then I vote to move it to September or later.

I'm up for whatever dates (but I'm not a big trail rider...) Later in the year I may not be able to get the boat launched (ramp drys out). Thanks Dean!

I'm up for anytime! (would prefer October better than September) just please don't cancel it!
But I would keep in May if the trails around Hull mountain are open, I can live without Penny Pines for a year.
...and I'm really looking forward to the food and campfire fun. That alone makes me want to go to the event!

Difficult choice. I don't really like either of the options above :-(
Is sometime around Memorial Weekend (perhaps first weekend in June) an option?
October might be iffy for me as that's the time of year I am starting to prep for ski-season stuff. September might work.
Anyway, I'll go with the group consensus.

Count me in for whatever date is decided .

If there is some way that I could help with prep, please let me know.
