My first Solo Moto camping trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula...1000 miles in 3 days. Highlights were Whitefish point and camping by the Hurricane River...lucky to live in this beautiful state and feel privileged to just enjoy what nature has to offer. Thank you Cannonshot for all of the datapoints...his RRs were/are an inspiration. Used his BB GPS tracks on my Garmin Montana which was a huge help. One lesson learned - go after Labor day if you want to avoid crowds at the major attractions like Whitefish, Tahquamenon Falls, and Pictured Rocks. Any my goal to make it to High Rock Bay at the tip of the tail didn't happen as the miles were too ambitious for a 3 day trip.
    A few thoughts -
#1 The Bike - Tiger 1200 XCA - at plus 86F...even on the highway the heat coming up your legs is brutal. I was cursing above 86F and loving the heat when it was 75F and below. Cruise control, electronics, and comfort are stellar. The Givi panniers rock. I set up my camp and went into town to grab ice and firewood. One held ice and one held a 3 hour bundle of wood nicely. The ice even kept through the night with my home made insulation on top. Used the water the next day to wash a few clothes in the empty pannier. Without panniers you will average 40-42 MPG on the Highway at 80 MPH. With panniers you will average 37 MPG.
#2 - Gear. I LOVE my Kriega 20l tailback. All my clothes and toiletries fit nicely in it. Expensive but top notch design. It left a panniers left to hold all the camping gear. I was surprised at how good the Freeze dried meals tasted...first time trying them.
#3 - can't wait to go back...need to plan a longer trip to explore the Keweenaw Peninsula which is still on my bucket list.

1000 miles round trip - Late start up Wednesday eve.

Stopped at Lower and Upper Tahquamenon Falls on the way to Hurricane River...too crowded for my liking...but the falls are beautiful.
