Part of travel is the people you meet. Many places in Baja people invited us for lunch or dinner or just something to drink.

Bahia de Los Angeles, Campo Archelon, having a great time with the locals and hunters from Mexico mainland.

Serious business preparing Ceviche, a dish of raw fish cured in fresh lime and spiced with chillies.
    Great stuff!

We are in contact with many overlanders, well it's a common interest. Amsterdamtoanywhere are a Dutch couple we have been in contact with since their trip started in Africa. We just missed each other there. Leonie is also one of the few womans that has ridden the Turkana route in Kenya with @Tan101 .
Since then they have moved onto South America and with a bit of luck we were able to spend a day together in Baja as they headed North into the USA and us going South. It's such a cool thing to meet up with others doing the same.

We found a place to wild camp on the beach and to spend the day consuming copious amounts of make you happy juice.

I've been silent for all 38 pages, but must speak. " You guys are killing it!!!" Photograghy, dialogue, drama, relationships. I'm elated to be sharing the ride. Huge thanks and God Speed to you most adventurous adventurers. Come back to Colorado and we will make sure your big buck beers will be free, and delicious.

What an adventure! Thanks to @Johnnydarock who gave us offroad tracks us gringos nearly offered our bikes to a river and were able to properly experience the magnitude of the Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains. Apparently its deeper and bigger than the Grand Canyon.

The difference is you are much more part of the Copper canyon compared to the Grand Canyon. Ride up it, over it, through it, it's so cool to be able to get this close to canyon. And to add some spice it's also the hangout place of the cartel drug dealers.

Some places you just have to work hard to be rewarded with such stunning views it's indescribable. And the best about it is that very few people ever get to experience and see such beauty.

Just after Tubares on the way to Batopilas the bridge over the river was destroyed it seems a long time ago. An old man whom we asked for directions indicated the water was waist high and not to try crossing the river. It's seems all calm and gentle at first. The pushing water was like a freight train and with big slippery boulders. It was either turn back and do another 300km round loop or try and cross this river. I walked it and it seemed okay at first. The water pushed but I thought with Elsebie, the bike and myself we would have enough critical mass to get the bikes through. As we took it slow, walking the bike through, got water into the airbox and we nearly drowned my bike when we slipped.
The damn front fender got twisted in the water and acted like a water scoop which helped push the bike off our course. But we got them through in the end. Tired as fuck!

The Jeep track running up the side of the mountain/canyon. We did not stop for photos as it was so steep there's was just no way to try and pose for photos. The pass climb from about 600feet to 7200feet in less than 6miles. It's a pretty cool ride though.

Took us close to 4 hours to get to this point. It's plain just fucking incredible! I do not have the luxury of the English language to properly express and describe the feeling and view standing there staring over the size of the canyon. The Grand canyon was good, this was mind blowing, and the best was there's no damn tourist.

That's were we started earlier the morning.
It does not seems like the road are much in use anymore. Okay maybe the odd marijuana grower still try and move their stuff on this road. But it is pretty much only 4x4's and bikes that can use it. There are many small farms along this road but we saw nobody and almost all homes were abandoned.

Small track on the way to Tubares crosses over a mountain and this is the view you are rewarded with from the canyon.

On the downside, this is the road dropping from 7500feet down to 600feet in 9miles.

Some cars are just not meant to be on roads like these. And on the other side the roads winds its way up the canyon again.

That's the fun part is that spaghetti running next to the river :lol3

Mines went under and churches went the same route. It must have been a brutal live working and living in such a place.

The riding in the Copper Canyon is second to none!

That's the village of Sativo down there.

That's Batopilas down there and the pass snaking it's way up the the mountain.

Another one of the million small river crossing on the route. I can only image these small crossing can turn into ugly rivers when it rains.

Juanita's hotel in Batopilas. We could have left our bikes on the street. The cartel would have looked after them.

    Trading store in Batopilas.

Batopilas is such a beautiful little town. It's a peaceful little place with old people and a river running pass it.
The drug cartel is also very active in the area. From what we could gather, they are not interested in tourist though. They are only interested in getting their stuff to their USA market. Which is the only reason they still exist. So as long as you do not take photos of them walking and sitting around with their big ass guns, ya all is cool yo!
And even more funny, they and the army and police all coexist quite peacefully. :lol3

Had to do the cheesy "selfish photo" :lol3

Cheers Copper Canyon it was a blast :thumb

    No, nada :D
We did not even knew at the time about hurricane Patricia was happening while we were there. We got loads of messages from friends to wanting to know if we were okay. Blissfully unaware of the carnage lower down in Mexico.
