I believe Hermann is in the MO wine country, on H'way 94, which is a nice, twisty road with a few ups and downs thrown in.

Hermann is a great place for this type of thing. It is convenient to get to from I-70 or from I-44 for those coming in from far off. The two lane highways in the area are great riding. There are wineries to tour and beer gardens in town. It was founded in the early 1800's by German immigrants who thought the setting (along the Missouri River) reminded them of the Rhine River valley in their homeland. Do a web search for more info on the town. Its around an hour west of St. Louis, home of BMW Mottorad dealership. Lake of the Ozarks is not far off.

Very cool. Sounds like a plan. Lemme take a gander at it when I get home from work on my DeLorme CD. But I'm thinkin' this is the place. :thumb

    Hermann?
Hmmm, looks a little too far north and east to be in the midst of where I always thought the good roads of that are would be. But then again, I've never spent any time riding the area, other than crossing over on the superslab a couple of times.
I remember a mag article on the area awhile ago, I'll try to find it and see where they were. Nonetheless, anyone with firsthand knowledge gets double voting powers in my book.

ImaPoser is correct that the better roads lie south and west of Hermann, generally south of I-44 in Missouri all the way south to I-40 in Arkansas, but almost all of the roads south of the Missouri River east of US Highway 65 are a pleasure to ride. Highway 19 south of Hermann is very good, as is Highway 94 which follows the Missouri River from Jefferson City to western St. Louis metro area.
The magazine article you are thinking of is in the August issue of Rider magazine.

I've only ridden 94 itself a few times, but it was a very enjoyable ride.

Missouri has dirt roads all over. Unfortunately, most are well maintained. :cry I knew a few good ones up around the tiny town of Eolia, MO, north of St. Louis, but that's too far away.

    I'm in!

Missouri will be great....a Minnesota rally would have meant too little riding for me...backyard and all.
