Just got my 3rd WR250R, and I'm wanting to try a little touring on it. Now I'm not talking cross country type stuff, just over night trips and maybe a long weekend. I've ridden and owned all type bikes, and the small bike idea has been bouncing around in my head for a while. What advice can you guys give on touring on what is essentially a dirt bike?

I had a Chinese 150cc scooter a few years ago. I swear they put fish oil in it. The smell.

Find as many trails and dirt roads as possible on your route.

Have what you need to change a tube in case of a flat.

Your bike is frickin amazing so no worries about top speed.

Maybe a top box or panniers? For the touring, I couldn’t resist. I got both. I figure I’ll take the panniers off when riding around the home area and leave the top box since I do errands on the bike as often as I can.

Disclaimer: I’m a n00b to this type of riding. Just telling you what I have set up to do. Haven’t even taken my first ADV ride. Ha ha ha. Next week, all week is my first.

Haven't really been "enjoying" it much yet. It's too goddamn cold and wet all the time! I'm itching for 80 and 90 degree days.

Get a good seat. (I love the Seat Concepts on my WRR)
    Stay off the highways.
Do as much dirt as possible.
Ditch the timeline and have fun.

Check out inmate Tewster 2 threads. He did a western tour and a trip to Alaska on his WR.

Ok, here are a couple pics!

She’s just posing with the bags. They aren’t attached for real yet. Ha ha.

Most of Indiana is pretty flat and is a big part of America’s “bread basket” but southern Indiana is a pretty nice area for ADV riding. The WRR is the perfect machine for enjoying it. Other than my herky jerky throttle I love my WRR.

Just keep an eye on the swingarm slider, which might wear more with the added weight of luggage. Otherwise, no real concerns. I consider my WRR to be a dirt-touring bike; it's really not just a dirt bike, and I think Yamaha used to (:cry) list it on their web site as a street bike.
