Back when the internet was new and not quite as annoying, we got together and created a simple mailing list to help coordinate efforts to help out those in trouble. We are now in the "future" and email isn't the best method to stay in contact... Before the riding season is over the firstname.lastname@example.org address listed below will go inactive. 2016 let us testing the app "Group Me" and the adv911 channel. The app itself has caused no issues nor plagued us with undo ads and spam. The need for the "MN Help me" service in any form is slowly dwindling and eventually won't be needed at all. Until then you are openly invited to join up the GroupMe Channel. See Post #108 in this thread http://advrider.com/index.php?threa...cy-help-me-system.685516/page-6#post-29621441 ------------- The content below is now outdated ------------- Our fellow rider Safetybob had an annoying experience the other day. A blow out forced him to the side of 694 where he was stuck for several hours looking for someone to lend a hand. It seems as though the AMA and road side assistance were a bunch of jackasses. See him for the complete story... In my short time with you all I have come to know you as an almost obnoxiously helpful bunch of people who, had we known at the time, would come to a fellow rider's aid. Perhaps offer a pick-up truck, call a motorcycle shop for them, come give someone a gallon of gas, look up a phone number. Anything like that helps. So, I am working on the first incarnation of a mailing list to help facilitate a speedy and wide spread call for help. At this stage I'm deliberately keeping things as simple as possible. There is no need to create additional accounts, we all have enough of those already. If this works well and there's a need to make things a little more locked down, expanded, or otherwise more technological we can do that. How it will work: 1) Get into trouble. 2) Send an email from your phone, coffee shop, or whatever to email@example.com telling the list, "Where you are, what you need, and a phone number to reach you or a significant other. 3) Wait What happens after you hit send: 1) The email hits the list server and is broadcast to all you helpful, kind, and considerate people who volunteer to add whatever email address you like to it. 2) The first person who is able to help emails the list back firstname.lastname@example.org and says something like, "I'm on it, stay tuned" When a problem starts, let everyone else know someone is on the case. 3) It's at this point the helper is helping out the troubled party. If further discussion or resources and needed from the list, use it and put out a call. At the end of the day use other resources/sites to find out how it all went, demand pictures and humors anecdotes related to whatever happened. Basically, go about your day satisfied that you are a hell of a good person and a damn fine stand-up individual for being part of this system in the first place. NEAT! How can I be a part of this fantastic thing?!? Why that's easy, PM me the email address you want to make a part of the list. Naturally, when you don't want to play anymore, tell me and your name will be removed. Question: Do I have to be part of list to use it? Answer, no use it if you need it. As mentioned above, if the need arises I'll make it more complex, make joining and leaving auto-magical, make the list expandable to numerous regions, install one of those hideous CAPTCHA things.
