Here's a trip from late last fall. We gathered for lunch at Betty's Pies in Two Harbors. The track starts at Hwy 61 and MN 1 on the North Shore, follows some inland forest roads to Grand Marais. We spent the night there, and the next morning took the Gunflint Trail up to the Trail Center Lodge for giant pancakes. After breakfast we saw a moose on the trail. There is a dead end on the the route where the trail was flooded, so we backtracked. Enjoy :ricky

When traveling across the country I stay in National Forests for free.
Follow the don't leave a trace rule.
Stay off main road; take off shoot trail off main road and your good to go.

It's much quiter and more private than any KOA or public campground.
    Hope you don't need a shower (Rustic/Primative).

I am a backpacker and very used to the no shower, although we are carrying one with us....and the leave no trace. We also try to stay in the National Forests as much as we can to avoid the family campers when we are on motorcycles and save that for when I am with my family.

I have most of the sites now listed on a paper map that we should be able to find easily. I have not been to this area before so we are going to try to stay along the banks of Lake Superior at least one night. Thanks for the website.
