Been following this story on the Facebook thread since its local, apparently they found the bike at a rest stop on the North Fork of the Mokelumne River just north of Mokelume Hill with his helmet and gloves but other personal items missing....hoping the dude just ran out of gas and decided to hoof it but the timeline is all wonky, last heard from Wednesday morning @ 8:30am by the river and nothing since.

Hwy 49 is a pretty safe place to ride, crime wise. I would be surprised if something of that nature happened. The rivers are running strong right now, though. If he was climbing near the shore, he could have fallen in. I sure hope they find him safe.

They found his cellphone, laptop and clothes near the river but no wallet. Unfortunately I think this is unlikely to have a happy ending.

According to Trop, the motorcycle Johnson was driving was located by authorities near the Mokelumne River, where Johnson allegedly went for a swim. His backpack, clothes, cellphone and computer were found by authorities. But not his wallet.

Trop said she fears Johnson may have drowned in the river.

"He was probably swept away in the river," she said. "The detective said the current has never been so fast and so high. He's not really an experienced swimmer."

I was up in that area on Saturday and one thing I noticed after crossing the North Fork of the Mokelumne River was how much and fast it was flowing

Update, they found his wallet in a pocket of his riding pants. Sounding less like foul play, more like an impromptu swim gone bad.

He also could have been washing his feet or dishes and been drug off by a mountain lion. Sad deal.

A sad tale, guy had a dream job by most of our standards. Hope there is some closure for the family or some other information yet to come out.

Life is really fragile in a snowmelt driven river. Surprised because Johnson was by all accounts a smart and aware guy. On the other hand, not surprised because we hear this multiple times most every spring. American River tragedy was just this week, too. Lots of pain to go around. Will miss Davey's input and observations on this fragile life we all take for granted. RIP.
