Looks like a place to set up a tent.
Did I miss something, 3fity?
Decent tent camping spots around the lake. Don’t think any fish in it tho.
Needed a spare exploring bike.
2020 350 Exc-f.
This thing is super light, around 225 #dry!
Seat height is a bit of a challenge at 38” tho. And it has the typical KTM headlight. Worthless for after dark riding. Saving $$ now for the same LED setup I have on the 690.
Just did the 1st service the other day at 6.4 hrs , 173 miles.
i stayed at super 8 twice, across the street from montana club
not sure about leaving truck for a few days but worth asking
Thinking about riding the Magruder, Elk City, Lowell, Lolo loop in the next few days. Weather looks great, camp out one night along the way.
Anyone is welcome to come along.
Dang, if I wasn't prepping for another ride coming up in the Black Hills I'd join ... this is big on my 'to do' list!
Good ridin' to ya!
Only camping one night?
I've made the ride in two day but if it's slower and takes three that's fine with me.
I've got another ride in mind for us when you get back.
If you're riding pavement from Elk City then two days no problem. But it's more fun to take the Elk City Wagon Road and Lolo Motorway, which puts it to three days.
Much more betterer.
Not new to ADV but new to the ranks of the maladjusted.
Been thinking about the Magruder lately, but first things first. I just bought a 2014 690 Enduro from a dealer in Burlington, WA (north of Seattle). I'd go pick it up but my wife is seriously immune compromised, and she'd rather I didn't make the trip. I'm getting some quotes from shippers but thought I would post here to see if anyone with hauling capacity had an interest in helping a local inmate out. More than happy to compensate.
You know, the Magruder-Elk City Wagon Road-Lolo Motorway discussion sounds so good, I'm going to do it this weekend. Been a couple years since I did this route.
Sat-Mon, counter-clockwise. Happy to have others join me, just please be self-sufficient (tools and know how to change a tire, etc.). I'll post a gpx later.
If I can swing it, I will join you. Trying to sort out plans for next week is the key. I'll stay in touch either here or via email directly. I look forward to the gpx. I put one together and am curious how they are similar/different.
The Magruder this year is the smoothest I've ever seen it. The Idaho side had a few sandy washouts on downhill corners and the Montana side was actually enjoyable for once.
Looks like it will work for me. Need to be back as early as possible Monday, as I have to leave town again Tuesday morning.
Magruder - Elk City Wagon Road - Lolo Motorway, Labor Day weekend 2020
Here's the gpx for the route I'm planning to take.
Disclaimer: I have not ridden all of this.
Bike choice: Mostly dirt, and I just took a long trip on my Tiger, so I'm taking the WR250R for this ride. Big bikes are probably ok. . . but note disclaimer above. Burnt Knob lookout is the most likely trouble spot, and could be skipped by anyone who doesn't want to do steep and loose.
Fuel range: 152 miles from Darby to Elk City, and 156 from Kamiah to Lolo. There are ways to make it shorter, but this is what I'm planning to do. 200 mile range strongly recommended if you're following my route.
Meetup TBD after I find out who, if anyone, is interested and available.
Should get to Missoula before dark, but I doubt it would be any sooner than late afternoon.
Just finished Magruder on my 1090 today, have never ridden the Motorway. I can regroup friday, my 640 is ready to go. What time are you meeting Saturday in Lolo?
Looks like a fun ride! Enjoy
