I went up nine mile today, the ranger station, Kreis Pond and over to Alberton today, beautiful ride but not a speck of mud or a wet spot on the roads anywhere that I went, I did stay to the lower roads, c'mon rain / snow!

I was up there yesterday. Isn't it bad how low that pond is? There is water running into it, but it is not like what it was years ago.

yes, it looked very low.......I did see two bull elk nearby though, one of them had shed his antlers and the other still had one side left...they charged across the road and dang near t-boned me!
I see that you live in Huson, I rode thru there on my way home today-and past the Smurfit-Stone mill, it is kind of eerie there, all quiet and all of those hardhats hanging on the fence.......sure hope it reopens like the rumors have it!

It is going to be a mess if it does reopen. All the workers are moving.

You see elk up this way quite often.

I predict that the MT1000 will be cancelled. I hate to say it as I hope to catch part of it... But if things get as dry as I think they will be then the powers that be will likely close down the forest roads.

I remember back in '88' (I think) they basically shut down all off pavement travel.

I'd be positive, you haven't had three years of drought leading up to this low snow year. Also the late snows still have an effect yet too.

While some factors may be known by now (snow pack, average precips, etc.) the FACT of the matter is that we never know until Summer is well upon us what the fire season will be like. Wayyyyyy too many variables!!!!

Take a deep breath and relax folks. What will be will be.....

Campfires may well be banned (and often are in dry conditions) but flat-out road closures seem a last resort.

lets not get too excited, it has been raining here in Missoula on and off for over a week and almost steady for the past two days, with temps 20+ degrees below normal. I heard a meterologist say that we will have a wet June and a cool July....

Hold off on that a little bit, we are getting all the snow and rain we need right now. I was planning to do some project work up in the Forest outside Ovando tomorrow and Thursday, but was informed yesterday that the area is impassable due to deep snow.

I am sure we will need the prayers come July.
