In hindsight. But remember, this all goes back to Bernie Madoff. Financially, the deferred payment seemed like a deal for the Mets because they were earning so much money with Madoff. But then we all know what happened to Madoff.

Most of those stupid annuity style contracts are the result of Dennis Gilbert going from being an insurance agent to a pro sports agent . High powered agents have ruined pro sports .

Actually, the annuity made perfect sense. I got bored and ran the numbers on it yesterday. The 6 million the Mets would have paid for Bonilla in 1999 would have cost them over 20 million in lost gains by 2035. On paper, it made so much more sense for them to do that annuity. They were actually getting off cheap. The problem was that all those projected gains were smoke and mirrors by Madoff.

An agent’s power derives entirely from the clubs’ willingness to say yes.

With Madoff returns, it would have been much more than 20M delta. even without smoke and mirrors, taking that money up front and investing it in the s&p would have made more money for bobby.

As if things weren't going bad already for the Braves with Ozuna and d'Arnaud out, Acuña tore his ACL last night. With the trade deadline looming it looks like we should turn to building up the bullpen for next season.

That was some terrible news. Hope he heals up ok. He's been one of the best things to happen to the Braves in a while.

-Biggest boos tonight are for Dave Roberts and Dodger players.

-Joe Buck "I've said it before, it's not an All-Star game until Coolio's music comes on." :loco

-For fuck sake Smoltz, fix that dead tooth and get some veneers, you are the .1%!!

    Any other observations?

Yes , here's an observation . Apparently it has been Smoltz who complains about how tough being a player in the show is , sorry , but judging by the guy pitching for the AL it isn't so tough .

Are we in fact seeing the guy who will take the Babe's place as the greatest player ever in Ohtani ?

    Smoltz is such a whiner.

Give it five more years and I'll say yes, regarding Ohtani.

The interviewing of fielders in between pitches is really fun, didn't see a play where they were talking and it came to them. Catching a fly while being interviewed would have been the cat's ass!

They didn't have it live on the MLB app down here in Chile, so I'll get a chance to watch it tonight.

    Yeah, but...
They grabbed Joc Pederson and just today, one of my favorite all time catchers, Stephen Vogt.
