Braves answered my question a day early. Pache out and Soler in. It'll be nice to have Soler's bat if we need it, but we're giving up Pache's speed in a series where stolen bases mean everything.

Down 6-2. Snitker is giving Dylan Lee some time on the mound. I feel like this means he's OK with an L tonight.

Trivia while we watch Boston and Astros. Astros 1 Boston 0 as I type this.

    Something I didn't know!
Why is the letter "K" used to denote strikeouts?

A guy named Henry Chadwick created it waaaaay back in 1856 !
"He had already chosen S to stand for sacrifice in a box score, so he used K for a strikeout, since that is the last letter in “struck,” which was at the time the most popular way to refer to a batter’s being out after three strikes."

Yeah - can't really root for the Dodgers.

Tough to root for Houston, but you still have to be happy for Dusty Baker.

Me too, and I really can't root for the dodgers, but...

Do you think the dodgers would be more likely to beat the Astros?

It seems the Dodgers are running out of steam.

Braves up 4 to 1 right now. Still lots of game left.

    Trivia while commercials are on......
Most will know this but some may not.
Why are the Dodgers called the Dodgers?
Because in Brooklyn where the Dodgers began (and should be now) there were a lot of trolleys and you had to dodge them, so originally the Dodgers were called the "Trolley Dodgers"
"The term "Trolley Dodgers" was attached to the Brooklyn ballclub due to the complex maze of trolley cars that weaved its way through the borough of Brooklyn. The name was then shortened to just "Dodgers."

My son is so confused right now. Here we are with my father in law in May...watching the Astros beat the Rangers for his first MLB game.

A week later we were at Truist catching my Braves. He already said that if the Braves play the Astros he won't know what to do.

I won't be rooting for either team, just hoping for exciting baseball.

In a related matter, are they doing the "DH in the AL park" thing? (I'm also hoping that the don't switch to DH throughout baseball next year, but from what I hear that's just a matter of time.)

I confess, I have a thing for baseball world series game 1 flyovers, gives me goosebumps every time !!!!!
Welp, Astros Minute Maid Park has a roof, and I just looked at the houston weather forecast,
"Intervals of clouds and sunshine. High 86F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph with a 40% chance of storms."
So, are they gonna have the roof closed when the flyover happens? Will there even be a flyover?

When I become ruler of the world, I hereby make a proclamation:
"ALL first games of the World Series must have a flyover (preferably with big heavy lumbering bombers that make a LOT of noise) and the roof shall be open! You may then close the roof after the mandatory flyover."

They've been doing it longer than I realized!!
Cool story below, must read about the 1943 "incident" :lol3

From what I'm hearing, both players and MLB want it to happen. But MLB is keeping it in their back pocket as a negotiating tool in the upcoming labor negotiations with the Player's Association. So most likely there will be a universal DH assuming there's not a lockout and we actually have baseball in the spring.

There was an issue with Minute Maid park and the dome a few years ago. Astros were accused of closing it in good weather to make it louder for opposing teams. Since then, I think the roof has pretty much stayed closed during postseason play.

Any truth to the rumor that all the Braves home games will be played in Denver??
