Kaspilo, good to hear from you again! Thanks for confirming the odious nature of Warloop. I would like to conquer it one day but not on this trip.

Thanks for the suggestion. If necessary, it’s good to have a line on a campground!

Rode the length of Tennessee today. My suspicion that the DR makes a plausible touring bike has proved true. My ass has always gotten sore on every bike and with the Procycle seat my ass is as happy (or not) as on any proper touring bike to include Harleys, Beemers, and a 1000 Concours.
It has an inclination to wag its head above 65 but nothing that would turn into a tank slapper.
At a rest area I met a Swede named Ben. We chatted about Harleys (he was traveling on one) and he mentioned playing the electric bass. That’s when I told him I did too and it was worthy of a handshake.
I think we spent more time talking about bass playing than bikes. It felt good to discuss music with another player.
This in addition to numerous nameless truckers who shook their heads when I told them I came from LA and am headed to NYC.
I agreed that it is a long trip and I had no idea why I am going to NYC.
I think I posted my only pic from the day- the LaGrange photo. I really like playing and singing that song.
Should be picking up the trail again tomorrow, headed north.

My school friend, Randy, builds electric bass guitars from scratch in his fabulous shop in Chatsworth, CA. He might give you a tour if interested. http://wynguitars.com/

I’ve seen his axes online. I’ve built a few myself but nothing on the order of builders like Wyn, et al. Those are not only pieces of art but I’m sure they play pretty well too. Neck work is definitely its own art. I attempted to do some custom shaping on some cheap necks I bought from a local music store for $15.
Wood working isn’t really for me.
I would typically buy the best cheap bass that felt good and disembody the neck and use on my own body. Usually the bridges and tuning pegs were good enough to use and those items alone justified the price of the donor.
My guess is that Randy’s basses use higher end hardware.
My favorite, most versatile bass is a lowly Bronco; heavily modified, but a $150 Bronco just the same.

Done it both ways many times. I live close too. It ain't so bad, IMHO, but of course results may vary. It's certainly not worth worrying about as the toughest section of the TAT. The bad section is a half mile, at most.

It’s a pretty bad half mile IMHO.

I actually like their jaunty body shape. I’m just not a $3000 bass player.

I saw that there are knock offs available but aside from that being taboo in the bass community, I wasn’t crazy about doing business directly with a Chinese company.

Before she became Mrs M I figured she was too good for me. I still think she is.

Damn man, didn't realize you were going all the way to NYC before heading to PA. How many miles have you logged now? Given the trajectory of Dorian, I'd stay away from the coast until it passes north. Not sure what your timeline is for reaching NY, but it's supposed to feel the storm when it passes.

Keep the knobby side down @molochnik, bet it'll be great to get back on the trail again :ricky

Yesterday was a 400 mile day. Today was 300.
The roads have been fantastic; blue routes gravel or pavement and green routes very well kept or fresh pavement. These roads are very similar to what I grew up on in rural PA.
In fact I’ll go so far to say that in many cases I was reminded of Deal’s Gap except there were more elevation changes today.
These routes would be perfect for a single cylinder roadster, a Miata, or maybe a WRX.
Some of the corners were a little dirty but nothing that caused any trouble.
Very pleasant day until the late afternoon and there were a lot of deer on the road. That’s troubling.
Edit: also a lot of cops lurking about and I got cut off twice; once was by an ambulance

You’ve seen them! Not to be ascerbic, in all honesty it looks a lot like the roads at home (but better surfaces) or Lake Hughes, or maybe even Bouquet.
Not a complaint by any means but simply my perception.

Oh PA is on the way and I’m going to be stopping there before I go to that morass of humanity.
I need to put my new shock on before the urban combat.
