So after Peter left and flew back home to Denmark I went back up to the cabin. I took the small back road across the delta as usual.

I really like all those funny bridges that can open up for ships. and there is a lot of them in the Delta.

And yes.. there was time for a burger on the way!

Next night Heidi and Michael came up and Heidi made REALLY REALLY good food.

I love how we can just throw leftovers over the deck.

    And Chokolate cake for dessert!!!

    YES ITS THAT GOOD!!!!

And then it was time for a little fun in the hottub!

    One hour later!!

On saturday it was time for the Hangtown Motocross classic. The longest running national motorcross race in the USA.
    Started in Placer in 1969!!!

you can see the whole story here....

At the race there was a guy promoting hes new toy.. a 600 dollar remote controlled mx bike.

We walked around the pit for a little while.

Sinca the race is in a state park of cause Smokey the bear was there!

I would rather get my picture taken with these girls!

Just before the race started the was a very cool sky diving show!
I wonder who the sponsor is?????

As always I mostly ran around taking pictures.. It was lot of fun!

It was a really great day... and HOT
    [IMG]

When we got back we was all thirsty and really dusty! I think we all could use a shower
    [IMG]

But Emily was all excited about going riding so she did a few laps around the yard!

    Only a few chrashes!!

    Auch!!

On sunday we went riding... I went out with Emily... She has learned a lot
    [IMG]

But she is taking too many chances.. I guess that how it is when your young and havent tried to get really hurt yet!

But I think on this day we found her limit..

Sunday night there was a solar eclipse.. not a full one, but still cool.. WE could not see much, until I started taking pictures!

On monday I drove to Reno to get the new DRZ plated.. I could not get it plated in CA.. some stupid emission law!!!

A little cold over the pass on I80
    [IMG]

    but pretty
    [IMG]

But it did not work out! Its a long story but as it turns out the title isnt clean so there is no way I can get it plated! SUCKS..

WEll other than that I have been working on the trail map of the area at the cabin.

is takes a long time, but its fun and then I can explore new places!

So when you are out exploring all day its important to start out with a good meal!

    I just love riding dirtbikes
    [IMG]

    What the FUCK!!!

On monday it was Memorial day. And in placerville they celebrated with a plane show!

I celebrated by going to the local bar/grill. Funny place.. no tables at all. Just one big bar that everyone sits around!

Some of the bikers there suggested that I would do a ride they usually do!
So I did! But I was not prepared for going over 8500 feet passes!

    But really nice!

    and nice roads too!

on the way back on 49 I found the local library!

Love how they had the books outside!

Now I am in Wisconsin for the AMA Superbike races!

Not that this has anything to do with any of this.. Just like the picture!

Ok I am WAY WAY WAY behind on my updates... REALLY sorry.. but I have been busy. But you can read all about that on the followering posts!! and ther should be quite few few the next few days!

    Elkhart Lake in Wisconsin!!!!!!!!

So like last year I got the chance to go to AMA Superbike in Wisconsin..
everyone else was already there so I jumped on a plane all by myself. afterthe plane I took a shuttle and I was the only passenger, but one of the office ladies also got a ride on the bus.
She was just done with cancer treatment and I honestly never meet anyone so full of life. And SO happy about everything.. It was a great experience.

I love going to races. and especially going through the pits I think is really fun.

    isnt this just cute!

but most of the time I was just watching the heats and relaxing.

and then there is all the other funny people there.. Isnt this just a classic!

    GREAT idea!

To be honest I didnt wped much time this year running around to get race pictures but I think I managed to get a few that tells a little about AMA superbike.

and since we are in WISCOOONSIIINN....CHEESE HAT
    [IMG]

I know Im not an American but for some reason I really like that part with the national anthem! or more the whole feeling of being a part of something in that way.

The natinal guard was there as always and this time they had a Hummer with them and I could try it out..
but really... in a big car like this why choose a steeringwheel that would fit in a VW Beetle...

Sunday night after the races we was joined at the hotel by one of the racing teams.. It was a lot of fun... and the guys from Triple Crown Industries are great.

    GREAT hangover food!

and just in a few days Camilla and the rest of the family will be here and then we are ready for for this years big family trip!

BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED!! Camilla is here!

and the rest of the family.

after a good meal and a good night sleep we got ready for the trip.

This years trip will include rafting in Moab, Hiking IN Grand Canyon, Party in Las Vegas and dust storms in Death Valley.. So stay tuned! :-)

First destination was Michael land Heidis cabin for a relaxing weekend where everyone could get over their jetlag!

Dinner at the local cafe. I think Camillas brother Christian fell in love with the Pulled Pork Sandwich. :lol3
    [IMG]

And I think everyone loved the hottub!

On saturday it was the annual Wagon Train in Placerville CA.

with that there was a lot of stuff going on in town.. it was pretty much like a little fair with fake fishing.

    Dress up!

    lots of people
    [IMG]

    and BBQ cook off
    [IMG]

I really like the little hardware store in Placerville. They have EVERYTHING... well if you can find it!

this should be my next truck.

On sunday we did a little of dirt bike riding.. it was a lot of fun.. and we even got Camillas dad out riding with us and the ATV.. He did really good!

Getting Camillas dad ready for the ride!

but it was a hot day, so its great when you can find a cool creek to cool of at.

On the way back Emily crashed her bike and it rolled WAY down the hill.. So we spend the next hour pretty much carrying the bike out!

I think everyone had a great weekend.

First day on the real trip!
So monday we had a long day on the road all the way from Placerville CA and half way through Nevada!

    Quick stop at Lake Tahoe!

Early in the morning we went over the Sierra Nevada mountains. ITs was little cold but really pretty!

the mountains are pretty and cold, and then suddenly you go down the hill and you hit the nevada desert highways. All within one hour!

the desert can be hot so a quick pitstop and a cold watermelon is great!

Our destination that day was Spencer Hot Springs. and yes.. that is WAY out in the middle of nowhere!

this is why this is a great place to camp for the night

    Free hot tub....

    great views
    [IMG]

    Nice sunset!

So we got up early since we knew we had a 300 mile day ahead of us!

It was a long day mostly like this... The biker was on a across america trip!

    We made it to Utah
    [IMG]

and found a nice little campsite at a national forest campground.

Next morning we only had a short ride to Moab in Utah. It was mostly freeway, but it was a really pretty freeway.

    YES we made it.

    Time to cool off!

We had a lot of things plannes in Moab... White water rafting and Christian wanted to go skydiving.

But first we wanted to check out the sunset.. and we wanted to see it in Arches National Park at Delicate Arch.

we stopped on the way at this funny rock..

then a quick ride in the park
    [IMG]

and then a little hike up the hill.

here it is.. our goal for the day.

together with a lot of other people..

But it was really beautiful. So totally worth it!

Next day we had a White Water rafting trip booked.. There wasnt as much water in the river as there was last year and we was excepting a dull ride....BUT

    First instructions..

to be honest the rafting company was NOT very proffesional.... So I would NOT choose them another time!! they are called Moab Adventure Company...
If you can then you should go rafting with Tag-A-Long. Much better!

anyway.. the first part of the trip was very relaxing and we pretty much just sat there... We really should have practiced a little so the people in the boat could get synchronized a little.

but we did get to cool down in the water a little....

    then lunch...

and then we got to the exciting stuff.

on one of the rapids we got stuck and had a hard time getting loose again and down the river... while we was stuck on of the other boats tipped over.. That was pretty exciting!

Christian had the GoPro camera on and I will upload that soon.. its pretty cool to see the boat roll over.

when the other boat tipped over our guide had to jump into one of the big oarboats and left us alone in the little paddleboat.. So she was guide us from the other boat..
We did really good I think and got into shore.

after that it was good to swim a little and cool down again
    [IMG]

and then we just driftet the rest of the way back.

by the way.. this is one of the guides... look how harsh the sun is here.... you can see where he usually had hes lifewest on.

when we got back after an hour of sleeping in the crappy old bus.. you know.. a 1970s worn down schoolbus! Camilla and I went into town to get birthday burgers at Milts Diner... Yes it was my birthday.. I turned 19..... ok..... 31

So the day after Camilla and Camilla and I wanted to go canyonering but we hadnt booked anything so that didnt work out.. So thats on the list for another time!

But Christian got up early to try to sky dive... I would love to try that some time... and Moab would be the right place to do it.

When we finally got out of bed.... That means when the sun hit the tent!.. we went down to check out Hole In the Rock.. It was made by a danish immigrant in the 1950s.
I know the place is really just a tourist trap, but it is a fun tourist trap :-)

Look...Its me with my friend Mater.
    Lets go tip some cows.

mmmmh what the f...?? a scope instead of a rear view mirror.

    Pretty impressive statue!

It is made out of old iron things.

One of our friends was here a few years back when she did a big US trip.
Back then if you came from denmark you could get your picture taken and put on the wall.

Next stop was Zion National Park...So back on the road!

a quick pitstop at Capitol Reef.

How do you like this road!

    Or this!

Not a bad place for lunch
    [IMG]

    Welcome to Zion National Park
    [IMG]

    OK... maybe this is better.

The first thing we wanted to in Zion was to hike up the river. Its a cool one day hike called "The Narrows Hike"

The first part is easy, but it gets harder and harder.

But its all worth it.. Its really pretty.. and when you get up the river a few miles you a all alone most of the time.

    Wonder how deep it is!

    Ups!

Good thing Camilla is a good swimmer!

a few places is a lot of fun!

There is a lot of animals here... and they are very used to people.. More about those later....!

Zion National Park is one of the prettiest places I know of.

Camilla and I visited Zion last year too but we didnt do one hike that should be cool.. So we wanted to do it this time. We was told it could be a VERY hot hike so we got up early.... VERY early and took the first bus up to the trail head to "Angels Landing"

    From Wikipedia:
Angels Landing, known earlier as the Temple of Aeolus,[1] is a rock formation measuring around 1,208-foot (368 m) tall in Zion National Park in southern Utah. A trail, cut into solid rock in 1926, leads to the top of Angels Landing and provides a spectacular view of Zion Canyon.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angels_Landing

Have I told you that I think Zion is a pretty place...!??

Pretty cool trail going up the mountain side
    [IMG]

    Just look at that
    [IMG]

    But it got harder.

and then we got to the fun part.
Do you see that mountain ridge there.... thats where the trail to Angels Landing is.

Im thinking that this trail might get closed some day when they figure out its to dangerous to do without any experience in mountaineering.

Just DONT take a wrong step!

Our next destination was Grand Canyon. Last year Camilla and I visited the north rim, so this time we wanted to see the south rim..

We had a long and very hot day to get there, but we got up early and got on the road.. I think we had to do about 270 miles.

and many hours later we found out campsite... good thing we had booked the site a long time before.. everything else was occupied!

of cause we wanted to see the view of the grand canyon.

but we mostly came be cause we wanted to hike into the grand canyon.

The next morning we got up early and took the very first bus out to the trailhead that leads down into the canyon.

I had a hard time keeping up with the family... I had to stop and take pictures all the time.. :lol3

we had not really planned how far we would go, but we had a enough water and food for the whole day.
WE was hiking down the "south Kaibab" trail and soon Christian was way ahaed and had desided to make a run for the river... all the way down below.
Camilla, her mother and I was not sure we could do that so we decided to cut across about half way down and then go back up on "Bright Angel" trail. The trail that cuts across is called "Tonto"

As it turned out Chrstian made it all the way down and all the way back up... and he did it faster than we did our hike.. And to be honest it sounded like hes hike was actually easier than ours..
Our hike took us 8.5 hours in all..

Another time I am for sure going to do the trip to the river...!!

Here is a few pictures from the way down.

and its still just after sunrise

And then after 7 hours of hiking in the heat we had to get up this. :eek1:eek1
    [IMG]

Just up up up up up up up up and up
    [IMG]

just look at us.. this is just after we finally got back up.... and we are trying to smile.........:huh
    [IMG]

and just to explain the heat a little... this is how hot it was on top of the grand canyon... just imagine how it felt further down!!!

Well we all made it and it was great to come back to the campground and get some food... Next time.. I am going to bring MORE water and MORE food on the hike... especially if we are going to make it all the way down to the river and back.
