Hi Guys, just curious, there is a rev limit before the 1000km limit. After that the red flashing rev disappear. But is that the only thing that happens?

I just passed the run in period and the bike seems more powerful/snappier or am i imagining things......

More or less imagining things. You can rev it past the flashing limiter during break in, but you probably shouldn't.

I know it sounds crazy but the BMW 1000RR has a power limit during the run in period and pass that it releases the whole thing. so still wondering if that is the case with the KTMs

Isn't the limit for the flashing light adjustable in settings...it is on the 1190? My first (new) one wasn't set at a low level by ktm or the dealer. Maybe this is different on the 1290?

I was taught that running in should always sensibly use as much of the rev range as possible without riding/driving like a dickhead (I.e. Red line in every gear all the time). Has worked for me!

On my 1290 the light was set at 6000 RPM until first service and the option to change it wasnt available until service was done

It does not matter when the light flashes ,

The power is what is, for the given power mode, no more.

Apart from psychologically, it dont half light up, its not just a little light, the whole dash seems to start pulsing red:lol3, certainly put me off doing it too many times on the run in.

Don’t know about a preprogrammed set point, but the motor will loosen up a tad and rev more freely after some miles. My 2015 1190 made a noticeable change around the 2000 mile mark after an 800 mile road trip was complete. Rev’d quicker and even barked a little more.

I know it doesn’t answer your question, but it’s all I’ve got ;-)

I felt like my 1290 was a tiny smidge smoother and stronger after it had 10-15 thousand miles on it

I think before first service the red light came on at 6000 instead of 8500 or whatever it normally does.

My 2016 1290 sat was restricted the first 1000km, like riding in rain mode all the time, no wheelies. After the first service the beast was released
