Holy shit that homeowner needs to grow a pair and whoever wrote that article is not very bright. The pic is of a Varanus salvator which seldom exceed 50 lbs . max weight being around 70 lbs. The idea that it's a 150 pound baby eater is hilarious!!
Saw that "story" on the "news" the other day...Typical hot air over nothing really Moving along here..
I had some fairly healthy Argus monitors. Those were not yer average lizard.... Made V. salvator look like they had been left in the fridge Oh, and this-
Sensationalized nonsense but hey , some limp wristed jackass is frightened so let's try to freak out everyone. Those are beautiful lizards. Salvators are a bit more docile which is probably why they got so popular.
I got attacked myself in Apalachicola Forest two weeks ago. I crashed on a trail in the woods and apparently disturbed a nest. They came out in force and lit me up. I ran as fast as I could in my AGATT and started tearing off my gear piece by piece because they got inside my shirt, pants, helmet, etc. Then, I dove into a creek in my skivvies to finally got them to stop biting me. I ended up with about 25 bites mostly on my arms, chest and back. Then, after I walked back to my bike, the rest of the hive was still swarming all over my bike. So, I just waited another 30 minutes till I thought it was safe enough to pick up my bike and get the heck out of there. P.S. I read on-line that yellow jackets are supposed to be docile and not attack.
At one time I had a small radio antenna screwed to the front fender just to help clear them with something other than my face. Now I just ride sweep
I learned really quick that being the first one in the trails in the AM wasn't a good thing and always let the "faster" guys pass me on one particular trail...
Floriduh is the Australia of the USA...death by nature is the way of things. Alligators, crocodiles, bullsharks, stingrays, barracuda, Burmese pythons, cougars, coyotes, rabid bobcats, cottonmouths, tigersharks, feral hogs, feral dogs, black widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, scorpions, coral snakes, rattle snakes, copperheads, snapping turtles, alligator snapping turtles, bathsalt addicts, senior drivers, crack/meth addicts, foreign drivers with no regard for USA traffic laws, MRSA, and amoeba...It can all kill ya in Floriduh.
In my opinion we have tamed this place a little too much. You used to have to be tough to live here. Now just about anybody can do it.
