Joshua Tree? One of the President's 3-day weekends in February?
I've never been to JT in the winter, but I'm guessing it could get pretty cold there.
Any other coastal ideas, anyone? Big Sur? Kirk Creek?

Is there food local to JT?
Big Sur would be nice but I think the crowds are there year 'round. I could be wrong.

Sunset beach in Santa Cruz is a nice place but I've only been there in the MH so I'm not sure about the overall lay of the land as far as close together campsites.

Three Rivers area? Any of the lake areas along 49? Shit this is California, the choices are endless.

Joshua Tree might be pretty chilly in February -- we were there in April, and it wasn't exactly tropical. But, maybe we hit it during a unusual cool spell.

What about Panamint Springs resort? It's on the western side of Death Valley, has a campground, small motel, restaurant. I understand that the campground has showers, too.

Yup! This is March in JT

If we are thinking winter get together in Calif; my vote, a beach/coastal campground down south.

Lets stay away from the DVD date

Not right inside the park, but there are a couple of camps close to 29 Palms and Yucca Valley. I think the folks are right about it being cold there though. Elevation is 3000 +.

The Pinnacles? What's around there for food. Not much on the East side, I know. Just throwin' ideas out there.

    YES!!!:clap Good idea, Garry!
Lower elevations might be prudent as the weather gets chillier/wetter...
And the roads are great up there....

Would that be Sonoma Coast State Beach, north of Bodega Bay?

Well, down here in my 'southerly' neck of the woods, there's
    Gaviota State Park
    Refugio State Beach

    and the inimtable
    Jalama County Park

All have food within riding distance, only Jalama has a restaurant on site.

    Just more ideas.
While central coast temps can be better than the far north on the coast in Winter, we still know to expect the the occasional rain storm with wind. There are no guarantees anywhere, I guess.

I'm still likin' Kirk Creek on Hwy 1, just south of Lucia. There's all that Coast ridge route, Nac-Ferg road, Hwy 1 itself, San Simeon and Cambria not far. They take reservations.

I think what we've learned here is that Morro Bay has it all. :deal Shirley there must be some other places that are nice, clean, across from the water with a very nice restaurant within staggering distance.

anyone know if theres any good camping in/around Cambria? lotsa decent places to eat there, and great weather, protected from the heaviest of the coastal damp n salt.

I was in Anza Borrego last week for the first time. Definitely a place worthy of more exploration-canyons, dirt, easy or hard all a matter of choice. Near Borrego Springs with all the services. Quite a ride from NorCal (where I am) but just a suggestion.....

Pinnacles is cool, but nothing near for services at all. Plus I bet it would be very chilly! great hiking though!

    Thanks you too!
The ride to pinnacles is fun, not sure of what else is around there? Parkfield?

I still like the northish bay idea, but then again farm rules and all. It only takes someone to post the location and date and if ya can make it cool, if not wait for the next one or start your own! :D

I was thinking of A-B also. It's pretty nice in February and March; the main campground has showers, and it's not too far from the little cafe. BUT it's a long haul for the NorCal folks....
