this one's kinda hard to figure out -- on the gravel road from basaseachic to san juanito, my wife, on pillion, stuck her arm out to the right and aimed down. i had no idea we were so close to the edge, or of what was down there.

same road, through a turn, our friend on his brand new scrambler just givin' 'er!

Man this is great stuff, specially for this amateur. com3 your panning shots are phenomenal, what kind of shutter speeds are you running? I've been playing with my 70-200 f/2.8 trying to figure it out. The eyes make that shot you said was difficult to get.

thanks! lotsa freggin practice, that's the key. hehe. a lot of those shots were taken with a 70-200L f/2.8 stacked with a 1.4x on it.

i'll let you guys in on my super secret settings... i've got it down to a freggin science now.

    ~ < 40mph = 1/160th (sometimes as low as 1/60th when i'm feeling "creative")
    ~ 40-70mph = 1/200th
    ~ 70+mph = 1/250th

those i tend to yield about 95% of my shots with few OOF pics.

i shoot almost exclusively in manual... i won't tell you f-stops or ISOs, but i'm sure you can figure it out quite nicely if you're serious about shooting.

the shot that i said was hard to get was the inside apex of T1 at infineon (sears point) right up against the k-wall. bikes are coming through at about 115mph+, and my window of opportunity is only about 1/2 a second long and i have to hit em within about a 3 ft spot. needless to say, i can only get about 1:5 of those. haha! AF is too slow with the 20D and the 100-400L f/4.5-5.6 and MF...well...i don't have those kinda skills yet. the "eyes" shot was actually shot in manual: 1/800 ISO400 f/8 @ 400mm. luck. :D

i'm REALLY enjoying this thread. keep posting! *thumbup*

here's another pic of the "eyes guy" @ 1/250th :D

This is why my 950ADV has knobbies - DAILY!!! This is also the reason I am now on the bike - rally in 4-tire mode is very expensive, even if it is 2WD!

You've done a very good job of illustrating that there is a huge difference between some guy pointing a camera and saying "click" and a photographer pointing a camera and saying "click". While each photo has meaning for the schmoe who took it, yours have meaning for the rest of us.
