My now ex-wife and I honeymooned for a few nights at the Arenal observatory in Costa Rica. Our room had a big window that faced the volcano. I had a hard time relaxing there as the volcano would rumble every once and awhile.
We also enjoyed the hot springs down the mountain. Everyone backs their cars into the parking spot, JIC!

Oh was your Hotel just at the foot of the Volcano? I guess the village is close...

No, our hotel was not in town. I was here: https://www.arenalobservatorylodge.com/

It looks like it's changed a bit since 2003 though... The road there was quite interesting.........

That is unbelievable!! I hiked volcan Santa Marie at night in a full moon back in 2006 It also took 5 hours to hike up to the top to view the sunrise. I was building houses for Habitat and it was our weekend off.
Those are some of the best photos and video on this site!

You're welcome! I wish I could accurately describe the feelings that this left behind... but I hardly can. I still wanna cry sometimes just thinking about how lucky I was and how incredible it was!

Thanks Cal! Sometimes I look at the photos and ask myself if it was really me taking them! But then, even if the photos are good it cannot explain the experience of watching this live and so close...

No surprise there, the video alone was incredible. I'd sure drag my butt and gear up there for that chance. Stellar call.

Find one of those laid-back, sleepy beach villages, open a cerveza, and watch the sun go 'round the earth would be my advice :jkam...YMMV
