Finally the time has come. After 6 months of waiting, John and I are days away from jumping on our motos to travel the distance. 2 dudes, 2 WR250R's, 2 years (if we don't sissy out). Our quest will be to seek out the most dirt, mud, single track, sand, far out, middle of no where, desolate, rutted out, rocky, shitty, steep and scary roads we can find.

We will both contribute to this thread. We intend to try our hand at some photography, some video editing and hone our poor writing skills.

    This will be our thread.

Before we set off, we raise our beers to everyone who has contributed to this forum that we have both learned from and been inspired by.

We leave this coming Saturday, here goes nothing....

We leave from home in Vancouver and make our way to Idaho. We'd like to do some sections of the Tour of Idaho, then, Utah to check out Moab. Not exactly sure our route through Mexico yet. I'm still searching for some interesting tracks. The plan is to wing it through Central America and visit some friends who live in a small town in the mountains of Costa Rica in December. If the FerryXpress is not running we will join one of the many sailing charters around the Darian Gap. Travelling south from Columbia we will go around Brazil visiting Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia etc. to Ushuia. The plan is to be in Ushuia by April so we can begin the process of flying the bikes to England (or somewhere near enough to England) so we can visit the Isle of man TT. Next we will push East following the some of the Sibirsky Extreme Trail to Magadan. This is about as far as we've got as far as planning. We are very loose with our dates and planning but that's a vague guide!

We would both appreciate any sections or tracks that people would like to offer or recommend!

Tour of Idaho would be an awesome way to start it! Could also hook up with the cdr to get some super easy dirt all the way to Mexico

    Sounds truly epic!

What software are you going to use to edit videos, and are you planning to edit them on the trip?

I just read somewhere about 2 guys that rode Rokon's through the Darien gap in the 70's, only took em 13 days

Ya we are stoked to get in to Idaho, the riding there looks unreal.

I will be using Premier. I am more fluent on a mac and know the basics on Final Cut however mac don't seem to fare well with the aftermarket DC chargers that are available. We will be editing while we are on the trip but I need to become a little more fluent with Premier!

Just a thought, I too ride with a Sony nex5 and I usually find it too troublesome to stop and deal with getting it out of the tank bag and then out of its case and then taking the lense cap off so I end up missing a lot of shots. I just ordered a waterproof point and shoot to hang off my hydration pack strap.
Hopefully you will have more self control than me to stop and take pics because in just a few months it's going to be hard to remember back what you're going through today.
Anyways, really looking forward to this! Good luck!

You should follow the IDBCDR. We did 5 sections of it last week. Had to head back to VI after doing Magruder. Still fires burning north of Wallace. Some road closures. It would be an awesome ride on your WR's. I did it with my 650 Vstrom and it was a bit of a work out. Could have used a bash plate and 3 more inches of suspension :1drink

Will be following! I will be prayin your Yamis hold up, your riding is safe, and your weather is agreeable. Also, what a time of year to choose. I can't think of much better time to embark on a journey! Good luck and we are all counting on you;)

    Thanks for the support!!!

So we are a couple day behind schedule at this point. John had an important work contract to finish up that got delayed at the end of last week.
We are currently working hard to get the bikes complete. After a late night in the shop last night, and a pretty successfull day today we are looking good for a Tuesday morning departure.

Good luck on your trip guys!!

The WRs will do great! I have been to Canada and Mexico three times each on my WR. Also have ridden thru every western state except Oregon on it.

I know you will be looking at sprockets soon. Consider the Ironman brand of sprockets. I got tired of replacing the standard steel type. These cost more but on extended trips they will outlast anything else you can put on the bikes!

Looking forward to your updates...great build thread!,,
