Vertex Standard is a well known, well supported brand. Easily the equal or better of comparably priced Motorolas. In the ham radio world, the brand is known as Yaesu. Vertex makes some great aviation and marine handhelds. There's a lot of cheap GMRS radios (and users) out there. You might want to look into the MURS VHF service instead.

I have the Motorola MU350R paired to an Interphone F5MC Bluetooth headset and it works about perfectly, I use with VOX enabled, just had to adjust the VOX sensitivity down to prevent inadvertent transmissions from background noise.
Only gripe is the short delay.

I went with an el cheapo PTT button. No delay that way. Just velcro it next to my clutch perch.

Thanks. So the Bluetooth will overwrite the mic built in the headset?

I'm on the bottom rung of understanding bike comms, so forgive any dumb presumptions or questions.

Two of us will be riding together (a bike each), and currently have no comms, but each have a smartphone and a Garmin GPS unit.

We'd like to be able to:
    • Chat with each other (with the option to use either VOX-type activation or PTT, depending on mood/whim)
    • Listen to music (either shared or individually/separately, and with decent quality stereo sound)
    • Use GPS navigation
    • Take/make phone calls
I separately have the following additional requirement:
    • Speak one-way to a third party (who won't have any comms of their own), potentially at increased range

    So my questions are:
    1. Is the Motorola MU350R the only bluetooth-compatible GMRS radio on the market (are they even still on the market - I'm struggling to find them in Ireland/UK)?
    2. I'd need a third GMRS radio (not necessarily bluetooth-compatible) and earpiece for the third party?
    3. You pair your bluetooth headset with your bluetooth-compatible GMRS radio (as well as your phone & GPS unit)?
    4. You can use PTT, either directly on the radio or remotely on a (wireless or wired, proprietary or third-party) PTT button?
    5. Would a PTT button be activating the bluetooth headset (e.g. Sena Wristband remote), or the GMRS radio?
    6. You can use VOX, where the VOX function of your bluetooth headset activates the VOX function of the radio?
    7. You could have the radio in your tankbag, perhaps powered/charging from a 12V socket on the bike?

Perhaps I'm asking more than belongs in an MU350R-specific thread (if so, mods/admin feel free to make this a stand-alone post/thread), but I imagine anyone curious about bluetooth-compatible GMRS radio might be wondering similar stuff.

    Thanks. :thumb

So I've got those ptt buttons that came with a throat mic. Everything works fine until I cut the throat mic off. Then nothing happens. Will I need to connect some wires together that I cut?

How do you velcro one of those to the bars? I'm looking for one of these buttons. [IMG]

So with the uclear you get about 3 seconds talk time before it cuts the connection. This is pretty useless.

The PTT I have works fine but the Uclear or radio cuts out after a few seconds. I've upgraded to the latest firmware and right after it worked at home. Now not anymore.

I’m curious to know if anyone has paired their MU350R to Apple’s Bluetooth AirPods?

Since my wife and I already have AirPods I was thinking if I could pair the AirPods to a MU350R and pair the MU350R to a Bluetooth PTT button (perhaps like one of the PTT button linked below), it might be a fairly good FRS/GMRS bike-to-bike communication solution. (For the type of riding my wife and I mostly do, (forest service and logging roads), I think a FRS/GMRS solution would work best.)

Those Bluetooth remotes are for zello on an iPhone. You need this remove for the mu350r https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-1693-Two-Way-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B00HQUX1HG

Not sure if pods will work
