Well the dirt bike nostalgia bug is alive and prospering here at ADV... The "Honest Muz" thread sparked an enduro related hive of activity based around the institution that (was) ADB magazine in the 80's and the personalities that adorned the Aussie enduro scene at the time...

While rooting about the place (or should that be routing about the place... I never did get those two sorted out completely? :huh :lol3 ), I found some classic old Mr Motocross photo's and stuff...

So as to keep "Honest Muz's" integrity (now there's a contradiction in terms if ever there was one :rofl ), I though maybe another parallel thread to honour the glory days of Aussie MX were in order... so without further adieu we present the; :deal

Anthony Gunter on the Suzuki RM's:

Between the pair of them, these two dominated the Mr MX series in the late 70's and early 80's...

Steve Dinsdale a local Mackay rider who was a top 5 Mr motocrosser for many years, Steve is still active in the CQ area and conducts coaching clinics and his son is a current member of the Yamaha junior development team. Steve tells a good yarn about the old MR M days and fisty cuffs were not uncommon back at the pits. Dedication is always a big part of any sport, Steve has a cane harvest buisness which he would operate for 16 hours a day, then jump in the ute and drive down to Vic non stop all night and next day with little or no sleep, race a round and finish in the top 5 and get back in the ute and drive all the way back non stop to Mackay in NQ to work his harvester. Now he does it all over again for his kid.

It's come to my attention that Anthony Gunter won Mr Motocross in 1979 and not Stephen Gall. :deal

:lol3 Chris is a top bloke, and an above average rider (although he's not the kind of guy to admit to it...).

FWIW, Glen Bell rode the Vintage MX Nationals at Conondale this year, on a trick '84 CR500 - won it comfortably, and made a lot of good riders look ordinary.
Dean Burt won the Evo 500 class on an RM400, and would have won Evo 125 on a borrowed RM125C (ie: The oldest bike in the class) but for losing his chain several times in the first race.

This is an album which shows Anthony Gunter on a circa '75 Kawaskaki KX250, Anthony and Stephen Gall at around 19 years of age.

The last four photo's are Anthony Gunter's RM400 on which he won the 1979 Mr Motocross Championship.

Great pics. Like the look of the head on the RM.

I have to ask, where did you get these pics from?

Darryl was one of the first guys to go to the States and race for a year. He went over as a potential talent and came back super quick!
Him, Steve Rowlands, Greg Cameron and Chris Hall ( ex MA SA Pres, I think?) made up Team Honda SA in those days and they were a force in the MX scene.

Trevor was the one who rode YZ's, Gary rode Montessa and KTM's I think.

Anybody know what happened to Dave Basham from SA?
