Been mulling over the idea of this thread for awhile.
Figure if i start it, i'll be committed to follow through on it.
I've done a few good rides, but the idea of a RR is a bit daunting, so a picture thread seems a suitable alternative.

lets start with a few from this past week.

I need to edit a bunch from the trip.

Plus I have about 50,000 miles worth of others to sort through.

But this Ride was about meating folks.
some along the way as well at my final destination of S. Utah.

At Denver i jumped off the slab and headed into the mountains.
Stopped in Salida at this place, Fat Tees.
a shop owned and run by one of our own.
    WP_20160512_002.jpg

After a brief visit and my driving his customers away with my 2 day stench, i moved along towards my final destination.

    P5120113.JPG

saw lots of cool stuff along the way, but night was drawing near and i still had a ways to go.

    Right, so where was I?

oh yeah, friday the 13th. :bluduh

so i started my day out running late.
almost forgot to gas up right before heading into a 150 mile stretch with no gas.
then lost my tankbag in the fueling rush.

Id made 35 miles into some nice scenic and twisted roads when i saw a guy on a bike pulled over. I stopped to see if he was ok or needed help.

"nope just having my breakfast" he says.
so i go to grab a smoke outta my tank bag and its not there...Chit! :fpalm
realizing i had set it on my pannier when i gassed up, i doubled back to the gas station hoping it fell off there and someone might have turned it in.

on my way back i flag down a pack of passing bikes, they had a chase vehicle and trailer following.
I asked the van driver if they had seen my bag?

"Nope, we saw nothing on the road"
i noted he had an accent...and thanked him and went back to find no bag and not clues.

pissed at my stupidity and carelessness, i double back again, writing off my bag and the stuff in it.
I wasnt gonna let that get me down, 250$ worth of stuff, it sucks but hell, look where i am?

So I stop at this spot to take pictures of some scenery.
i pulled of at a spot ranchers had been camping at and had water tanks for cattle, easy access off the road.

    P5130158.JPG

    same without bike

    P5130160.JPG

I snap a few shots, nothing really looks that great to me now, but taking in that big scenery is a hit or miss thing and i was still thrilled being there.

one of the things i'd hoped to find on this trip were desert plants in bloom..
    WP_20160513_006.jpg

so i go to pull back up on the road and realize, i have a flat. :baldy
nothing i could patch or fix.

now 80ish miles from any services, no cell signal, in 85* temps and only about 12 ounces of water.

    :becca

Remember the pack of bikes with the chase vehicle?
yup, they show up just in time to save my ass.

i spent the rest of the day in an air conditioned van doing their prescribed tour.
their end point for the day was Escalante UT.
the tour guide, Henk, said there was a guy there that would likely be able to help me.
Turns out Henk and his crew were all Dutch and doing a 2 week tour of the SW US.

I was pissed and frustrated at my situation.
never did take pics of bike on trailer or these nice folks that saved my butt.
silly now in retrospect, since they were a highlight of this trip in a way.
i was just worried about how this would turn out and how much time it would eat up in my trip.

This is the guy in Escalante.
his business is called the Desert Doctor, if you ever get stuck out there, you'll likely end up on his doorstep.
    WP_20160513_007.jpg

He runs a shop out of his home, had tires, looked like some parts and basic stuff as well.
While BMW might not hire him, what with his beer drinking while wrenching and telling stories and talking as much as he worked, he got me up and running again.
price was a bit steep, but when your the only game in town, i recon you can charge what you want.

    the guy was a character.
all those little signs? the names of cities that people who broke down and came to his shop for help were from.
