I was more a woodwork than Latin boy at school!
Ah well half way to my resting place I’ve stopped for tea whilst the locals slam espresso shots and brandy’s down!
Packed and ready!
Not quite at dawn but away by 9! It’s funny how it takes a while to get into the groove and rhythm of a long ride. I fluffed about packing the bike then rode for the hills, it felt good to be moving!
Once your away from the coast, there’s almost no traffic
I could see some loops off the main road so poked down to get the tyres dirty!
Arty shot at morning coffee!
Lots of these old windmill wrecks here..
A smaller dirt bike would be a lot of fun in the hills here!
Where the concrete meets the gravel!
The trail got a little sketchy for a moment!
I tried this app today as a bit of an experiment ... what do you think?
Sitting in my palatial 35 euro a night accoModation after quite a big day! Had heavy rain for about an hour in the hills so got soaked and then dried by the warm sun running into Sagres!
That hard rain is gonna fall
I love a good bend! Not many straights today at all!
You could be Australia here. So many gum trees (eucalypts) lining the road.
My cheapo room!
With a view! Sold as beachfront!
Like the App and the photo's too.. Looks like a fantastic riding area and inexpensive to stay as well!
Thanks yes cheap is good as I’m away a long time this trip! I asked my friend for a restaurant recommendation in Sagres and at the place he suggested the meals were more than my room!
Last shots of my day! Just a little excited to be at the beach and the most South Westerly place in continental Europe!
Wifi is flakey tonight!
And, of course, a BOTD a a cheeky little Portugese IPA!
Goodnight from me!
Looks like a good day's ride.......love the shirt!!!
Ah yes Tuktoyaktuk! Not an easy place to get to from Australia!
Finished my adventure like this and slept like the dead!
Saw this beast parked on the pavement ... nice ride!
And cartoon of the day!
Off to be a tourist and find a beach!
Nice one Peter, great thing to do for your Mum. I'm sure the memories will be flowing as you devour the tarmac.
Just came across this RR now.
Firstly, sorry to hear about your mom, I know it leaves such a void. I was also far away from my mom when she passed, it leaves one feeling quite helpless.
Just love Portugal...and as you said, some parts seem quite alike our southern hemispere countries.
PS - so your dad comes from Wolverhampton...my GF was born there.
Thanks my friend. A long ride helps the soul and gives you lots of time to think.
Thanks for your kind wishes! Small world I was also born in Wolverhampton and lived in Penn. I started school at Woodfield Avenue primary!
The eucalyptus is a huge plantation tree here and I understand has become an invasive species and a big fire issue for the Portugese. After the rain yesterday the roads smelt of eucalyptus really strongly, it was like being in the bush on a steamy summers day!
Spending today chilling out on some awesome local beaches. The water is refreshing! It’s very lovely here. I love all the caves and rock formations.
Big surf culture in this area so feels like somewhere on the mid north coast of NSW! It’s nice hearing all the different voices, the smell of charcoal grills and 1 euro beers!
After a nice light lunch of fish soup I just got swamped a rogue wave as I slept on the sand on a rising tide ! What a way to wake up! The water is “fresh” Atlantic temperature!
I might have to slip down to the bar for a calming ale?
Well I have been here a week! Amazing my language skills are almost as good as these!
Had an awesome supper of fresh sardines .. back to Faro for some reunioning tomorrow! Beer may be drunk!
And another night cap to sleep well!
Guess who playing on TV in the bar tonight!
Looks like a video game...
