Sorta like winning the speed lottery . . .

The last man hung in North Carolina, in Marshall, when asked for his last words, reportedly replied "Sheriff, this is sure going to be a lesson to me."

Chillin in a hotel in Sioux Falls. Got a room in Madison tomorrow already.

had to superglue my 4th blinker together. Also, I’m right by an Air Force bade. I rode by it today en route to an auto parts store for said glue. No helmet of course.

2 fighter jets took off no more than 1000 yards above me. From behind. It was the loudest thing I’d ever heard I thought there was some sort of natural disaster or an atom bomb. It literally hurt me. Not my ears, but my whole soul. I literally thought they must be hitting Mach 1!

after some googling I think it was probably 130db+

Uneventful day today as I rode all the way across Minnesota into Madison WI. Meeting up with a local tomorrow that I hit up via Bunk-a-biker to borrow some tools and then he and his girl will show me a good brunch spot. From there I’m riding 5 hours to Indy to crash on the couch at an old coworker’s home. Then I think it’s about 8 hours to the Christiansburg/Blacksburg area....back into my neck of the woods where the camping is abundant and the roads a plenty.

Having a BALL in Indy...staying two nights. Gonna just call it a trip basically and head out tomorrow for the dragon. I’ll get there Friday night and camp, leave Monday for home in Chattanooga. 12000 miles, 22 states, 55 days. Not mad at that. Nearly doubled what I had planned to do.

Well guys....I’ve done it. Currently 630 am as I’m laying here at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort in my tent. I rode in from Indy, got in after 9 pm last night. Got poured on the last 90 minutes.....can’t believe I pretty much went 50 days without getting rained on and I get rained on coming into my homeland on the last day.

They have a covered area here for working on motorcycles. Also makes for a good spot to pitch a tent in the rain.

I’ll revisit this thread after the weekend with more thoughts. Everyone needs to ride around the country. I want to just rent my home out and go back out ASAP. I think this might have changed my life.

Great ride report.. looking forward to the reflection and any tips you have.

I did a cross country trip 4 years ago, although much more abbreviated time. 28 states in a little under 2 weeks. It was life changing. In my case not necessarily for the good, but I have been planning a YOLO trip to make up for the shortcomings of the last one. Its in the blood now. Even a bad trip is better than no trip.

I’m going to be competing tonight in the “fiddies” races, they have a rental. A dozen grown men racing in a parking lot around tires on 10hp Honda 50’s.
I’ve never raced a motorcycle before, never in a real “race setting”. Figure this is a great way to cap off the trip.

Those are a riot!! I watched a 50s race a few years back when a group of friends and I decided to do night runs thru the Dragon.

Deals Gap to the overlook and back at around midnight with a single headlight bike is about the only time the Dragon at posted speed limits or a tad over is actually a bit of a rush.

My trip is finally over. I got to my home about 2 hours ago. Didn’t take long to realize I don’t prefer city living.

I’ll make a more lengthy post with photos tomorrow after I’ve had some R and R. 12k miles 56 days 23 states.
