So sorry about Bingo Tracy.
I'll be back to read about squirrel monkeys.
Been waiting for this one!
I'm ummm.... 10 years late to the party but I'm loving your adventures. I'm on page 11 and still chipping away at it and just wanted to comment and thank you for this great thread. If you good folks are passing through VA and need a place to stay be sure to reach out.
Eric Better late then never
Thanks for peeking in ..
I really need to keep adding ..
Hey I know the area that you are in .
We lived in Blue Grass VA for over 20yrs...
We have a log home on Lake Anna with a guestroom and garage with your name on it in Spotsylvania! A fellow'ette Virginian!
We host a few rides in our area as well.
Part 2 ,Of ChinChin
OK Back to the Monkey .. I stepped outside ,to play with Max my GS..
I would always look at the cage to the left once I got outside, and the monkey was on top of it!
And very skittish, he saw me and got spooked
But instead of going to the trees he went in the trap cage.. Silly monkey .
Bam! The door closed and he was trapped. What a ruckus he made !
I ran back inside the house to tell mum we got the monkey !
We did the little happy jump up and down dance.
She took it to the vet where he stayed for a few days to a week . He gave it a clean bill of health although he was a tad skinny .. We were able to kept the monkey,That was known as a squirrel monkey .
The lab said that with all the trouble we went through. Keeping the monkey was our reward.
Of course dad always said ,see I told ya it was a squirrel ..hahaha very funny dad...
We had to tame ChinChin, now after all he was a wild monkey . We kept him in the basement for a good long time. That took a few months for him to trust us..Food is a wonderful taming tool.
Once he stopped trying to bite us we could bring him upstairs. That was his reward.
We kept him in the kitchen as that was the most active place in the house.
He had a huge cage .. We had a little harness for him too.
We would leave the door opened so he could sit on top of his cage .
And watch all the goings on..
In the early evenings ,We would bring him in to the a den, that had built in book cases and the TV …
We would close the door so he had free run of the room… He would climb the bookcases ,and pick up my brothers trophy's or books and pretend to throw them.. Mum say put that down, he would put it down and go to another one and do that game all over again.. After a while he would come and sit with us and fall sleep in a lap. His little hands where so incredible and strong.
Mum would bring him to the school sometimes .That was always fun.
He loved grapes, but would peel them, never ate the skins..
But would eat a banana whole skin and all.
He was a clean monkey, and loved bathing . He would sometimes take a bath with me. That was always treat . But most of the time he bathed himself in the sink..
We had Chin Chin for about 4 yrs.
Then Mum had to start working part time , and that just broke Chin chins heart .
Being a lone for so many hours during the day..
He started to do a few bad habits, and would have temper tantrums..
He would be fine on the weekends..
We had a friend named Ziggy ,who once had a pet spider monkey that died of old age .
He took Chin chin … It was sad to see him go .Ziggy gave him a great home !
He would bring ChinChin by every now and then ,for a few years . And that was always fun.
Told Ziggy we were moving. Lost touch a few years after the move..
At that point ChinChin was still going strong, but getting old..
Thinking and looking back ,it really was a hell of a learning experience for a very young animal lover. To have a monkey in the house .
I'm sorry I can't put a photo of ChinChin up.. I can see the box of photo albums..
I just can reach it.. I have to unload the trailer to get to that box..
When the weather breaks and we get in to the trailer. I'll post a pic of him here...
I do have a photo of my GS Max...
He was a 150 lbs with the star on his forehead...
I miss that dog... Yeah that's part of me in the pic with him
You can see the some of the pool too !
How about another pic of my beloved max and me as a pup.
As a pup he had a lazy ear that, did stand up once he aged ...
Hard to believe that is the same doggy …
That photo was taken in the front yard by the road.
It was fall and we were playing in the leaves . I still remember that day.
Max loved having his photo taken, he always posed as you can see...
Have some crazy stories about Max. He was the terror of the town
Maybe next week I tell Max's crazy stories...
Well today I tried making plain doughnuts …
They came out pretty good
After letting them rise, and then rolled out and cut .
Deep fried, then glazing..
In the fryer one side
I used a big fork ta flip
Made a maple glaze, for the holes and 4 doughnuts. The other 4 I used a left over Mocha glazed
that I a had used on a bunt cake a few weeks back .And stuck the left over in the fridge...
Already to eat ….
Well it's so windy here ,Today That the old WV state flower has blown over..
We never used it.. Have no idea how old it is … I'm thinking the 80's
Our big 10 X 20 tent blew into it back in '06. and bent 2 of the arms..
That is some dish.
Yeah that was the big/huge old ones...
Don't make them like that anymore..
I had been wanting to take some of the grating off.
As they are screwed on in sections..
Ya never know when you can use some grating …
Now that it's down I can take some off..
I needed some the other day.. But used something else..
Made Bagels yesterday …
They came out pretty good a nice tug..
Great flavor... This is the 2nd time I have tried my hand at this real PITA product..
But well worth it....
OK how about a few stories of Max..
He use ta love to terrorizer the neighborhood..
But he really was a sweetie..
Max had broken his line again. Something he would do at will .
He would run and just hit the last point of tension and the line would go ping !
And off on his adventure, As I said he was a 150 lbs GS . We used boating line for him.
This was back in the 60's .. Not many choices back then, we had tried coated wire, but that was really bad, even with swivels it would kink real bad. A Chain was just mean.
Well he wasn't gone long 30 minutes maybe , And here He comes trotting home with this huge London broil grilled on one side.
On a Saturday summer afternoon.
You know how a dog will carry something large ,with their head up, The item in their mouth ,and that wide straddling front gait !
Such a proud look on his face . He was providing for his family LOL.. Of course Mum said ; hurry get him in the house now !
No sooner I did that and the phone rings; It's the local police asking if Max broke his line again ?
Mum being mum said nope he's right here, in the kitchen .. Yeah he got away with that one...
Another time he came home with a mounted deer head a 10 pointer ta boot ! Max chewed the nose a tad as that was how he carried it home, It would just hit the ground every so often . Never got a call on that one.. I kept that head till a we moved to this place..
Mice had gotten a hold of it pretty good.. And I just didn't think it was worth to move it again..
We get a call from the local Pizzeria ,That Max Is there eating Pizza.. LOL
He really was well known in town .
And never had issues ,I bet in todays day n age they would have sued us or worse had shot Max .. He NEVER bit anyone.
At home he would play with Belgian blocs aka cobblestone ..
Very heavy rectangle stones..
He would pick them up and carry them around in his mouth !
He wore his teeth down pretty good ,doing that .. He just loved playing with them ..
Dad would line the driveway with them and Max would move them..
In the kitchen he get up by the sink and say wa~wa Wa~Wa..
Sounded like water , to all of us.. I would turn the water on and he would lap the water from the faucet ...
He was a great dog .. I do miss him a great deal ...
I have photos in an album ,that I'll post when I get to that box..
