OK, it is almost time for this trip to begin! :clap

The plan is "there is no plan". We have a list of possible places to visit and have not even decided on the exact route that will be used the first day into Mexico or where we will spend the night. I have ask for and received suggestions, they are included in this thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=534911

We will stop at my brother's on the way to Piedras Negras and spend two nights before heading further south. We welcome suggestions as we travel including places to see and good economical motel accommodations. We like the Mom & Pop type establishments. We will be in Mexico approximately 30 days, with a total trip length of 35 days, but this is flexible! We are retired, so there is no rigid time schedule.

While we have submitted a number of Ride Reports in the last few years, this will be our first attempt at posting while on the road. Please don't expect much! :deal At most, I plan on spending one hour per day on the RR and that it if we have Wifi. Hopefully what you miss in "volume" from some of our other RRs will be made up for by the "in the moment reporting".

BTW, my wife's name is Sheryl and I am Donnie. We have traveled over most of USA & Canada and are now planning on slowly broadening our horizons further south.

Other than normal maintenance and new tires the only modification for the trip was a Hyperpro Progressive rear spring.

Packing for this trip required quite an adjustment for Sheryl! She is accustomed to this:

    But, she made the adjustment!

I am accustomed to doing up to 5,000 mile trip on this bike carrying camping and cooking gear, of which we will be carrying neither. So it is no a big change for me.

Some folks can't get their mind wrapped around the possibility of all extra clothes, not including riding gear, taking up less space than a mature cantaloupe! But, when you put on all of the riding gear that will required for Saturday morning's estimated 30 degrees and then take off all that will be coming off when temps rise to 85, the space left in the saddlebags and trunk is very very small!

Here is the starting mileage for the trip.

I expect this trip to be around 7,000 miles, so total mileage should be well over 50,000 when we return. I purchased this bike 14 months ago with only 28,005 miles showing. This trip was one of the reasons for the purchase. To be honest, we would go on the Goldwing, but the "Mexian speed bumps" are too high and would give us too much problems.

Believe it or not, it is up to 6 inches of snow 200 miles south of us! I don't know what we are going to do about this Global Warming!

Did you happen to be riding that Goldwing along I-10 going east between El Paso and San Antonio on January 20th? We played leapfrog with a Yellow Goldwing pulling a trailer for a good chunk of that leg that day. My wife loved it!

Drop me a line when you get near to Toluca. :wave

    Have a great trip.

Those damn speed bumps ! I would take the Wing too but I have read the speed bumps are a problem. I ran over some speed bumps like that in of all places a "Grave Yard ". Slamed hard too. I'll be watching, good luck to ya.

No, it wasn't us, but we have made that run a number of times in years past! I will drop you a note if we are in Toluca.

I communicated with a gentleman, much smaller than me a while back, that rubbed holes in his Goldwing's belly pan on those speed bumps. I don't really mind rubbing holes in my belly pan, but I figured that if he rubbed that bad "one up", I did not want to try it two up. See ya down the road!

Good luck on the trip Donnie. I think I preferred my '95 R11GS over my '02 R1150GS. I think if I would not of tweaked something in the steering when hitting a deer in North Louisiana back then I would of kept if for more than the 50+ thousand I did put on it.
